Pre-race routine:

Powerbar and Gatorade on the ride down. Set up transition and hung out with the family and Scott and Michelle. Saw a few fellow club members and just tried to relax. Probably should have warmed up a little in the water, but I didn't.

Started out the first 150-200 doing well. Breathing, good stroke, and then it fell apart. Side stroked and breaststroked my way through. Zero confidence in my OWS right now. Last year I had a good swim at this race, almost a minute faster. Not sure what's going on.

Chain popped off at about 1.5 miles. Took me less than a minute to get it back on and going. Hips were a little sore which was kind of weird but I probably could have ridden harder but I'll take this ride.

Get passed by fewer people.

Jump off bike and maybe put race belt on at T1.

Knew that betting Slake was out of reach off the bike, so I didn't push this too much at all. Thought my time was better than 8:25 avg pace, in fact I'm kind of doubting this is correct. Whatever. Saw Slake and Shelly on the run. Scott looked strong.
What would you do differently?:

If it were a closer race with Slake, probably run harder, but took it easy knowing it was out of reach

Mental block with OWS.
