Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5am, had a bowl of granola, and made coffee. Unfortunately the transition area closed at 7:15, while my wave didn't go until 9:03, which made things awkward. I also didn't have anywhere to put stuff, so I took a tshirt and water bottle, and walked around with bare feet in my wetsuit for 2 hours. Which was a bummer because it was COLD, and the grass was wet and cold, and the gravel was painful; my feet were numb and white by the race start. Next time I am bringing swim booties to walk around in. I drank a bottle of water, ate a banana at 7, and a gel at 8:30.
Event warmup:

Walking around for 2 hours.
Swim
  • 20m 2s
  • 792 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I actually felt pretty good in the swim, for me. I felt like I could have gone faster. I tried to pick up the pace, but I've been just breathing every stroke to the right, and I was having trouble exhaling! I tried doing every third but wasn't comfortable, so I gave up. I also could have ignored other people more, and swum closer to the bouys.
What would you do differently?:

Swim closer to bouys, train more using every third stroke breathing, swim more.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Time is estimated because they didn't catch my swim exit (so probably was a little longer T1 and shorter swim).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 53m 1s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 15.62 mile/hr
Comments:

I really suck on the bike. I did hit my goal (from my computer) of over 16 mph, but my hills were slow. I also lost my chain and lost a minute fixing that. I need to work on my speed over the winter, and gain leg power. I did do well with going high cadence, especially near the end.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, focusing on shorter distances and speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing- it felt pretty fast.
Run
  • 28m 9s
  • 3.27 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Definately my best leg! I felt pretty good even at the start, and ran the first mile in 8:30, so I think my high cadence low power end of bike made a difference. I was working hard, so I don't think I left a whole lot out on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Not much- maybe run faster? :)
Post race
Warm down:

It started to drizzle a cold rain, so I found my clothes as quickly as possible and went to my car. Had to fix the timing issue first. I went home and took a long, hot shower, and wished I had a hot tub.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, as always. Not losing my chain would have helped, too.

Event comments:

Great race, though it would be nice to be able to get into the transition area in the 2 hours before the race starts, or at least have a secure area to keep stuff you might need to use then. Warmer water would be nice, too :).

So I had my garmin on for this one, and it read 3.27 miles, so I'm going with that on the distance! Which puts me nicely under 9 mm pace.
