Total Time = 2h 49m 12s
Overall Rank = 136/286
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up super early :( and had a pb sandwich (took another for the road and ate half before the race started).
Event warmup:

Stretched and set out all of my transition area gear.
Swim
  • 34m 14s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I know I could have pushed alot harder in the swim -- I was thinking about my wedding plans while swimming, which means I wasn't working hard enough! But, it was my first oly tri, so I wanted to enjoy it.
What would you do differently?:

Try to draft better. Generally, I was able to find holes where no one was swimming and I stayed in them most of the time, so I wasn't really drafting at all. I also will push myself harder next time. I think I could have easily shaved a few minutes off that time -- I was way too comfortable during this swim!
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

I think I did okay in transition. Nothing really took a long time, but I would like to see some definte improvement in my next race.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. I guess just do everything faster.
Bike
  • 1h 21m
  • 23.2 miles
  • 17.19 mile/hr
Comments:

See course description above.
What would you do differently?:

Continue working to get stronger on the bike. Also, I rode almost the entire course in my middle cog. Every time I tried to change into the big cog, it felt like I was going to drop my chain and I didn't want to have to put it back on, so I gave up some speed and probably wasted some time by staying in the smaller gear. I hadn't had any gearing problems until then -- oh well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Not a bad transition time, but I would like to get under 1 minute.
What would you do differently?:

Do everything faster.
Run
  • 51m 1s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was HARD! For some reason, I did not know that it was going to be so hilly! Plus the road had a steep to it that I didn't really enjoy! Overall though, I think I did pretty well, given the hills and the fact that the temp was at least 85 when I started running (and there were no shady areas on the run).
What would you do differently?:

Practice more hill running. I was aiming for an 8 minute mile and wasn't too off of that pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Jimmy, walked around a bit, got some grubb, and drove home. I didn't stretch at the race, but got a good 20 minute stretch later at home and played volleyball for an hour to keep my legs loose.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I went too easy on the swim (but was ok with that since this was my first oly tri). Also, I was sick 2 out of the final 3 weeks of training. I'm pretty sure this made me slower than I would have been had I been completely healthy during that time.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race. I did it with friends, which made it all the better. The volunteers were absolutely wonderful (especially the ladies who kept on giving me ice cold cloths during the run). I have already recommended this to friends as a must do for next year and I am ready to sign up again!
