Run
Comments: First few miles I ram on RPE and definitely didn't feel as fast as they were. Asked peeps around me with Garmins to confirm distance and the markers were right on according to them so splits should be pretty accurate. Had some pain behind my left ankle on the inside. Had this before. Came on around mile three and stuck around until mile eight. While the first few miles were faster than expected based on RPE, I didn't really get comfortable until mile 8 or so. Got pretty dang tired at mile 11. Took gels at miles 2 and 8. Should have taken another one but there wasn't an aid station handy at mile 10. Maybe taking a little more calories earlier would have helped with the last two miles. Around mile 10 I hear an eeeeaawwwww!!! A few minutes after that jmwebs and joe runner rolled up on me. Nice to run with those guys a bit. They both yelled at me for walking up a hill. And that's okay! Lara13 passed me in mile 12 and made a smart azz comment as she pulled away looking strong. Great to see all the donkeys out there! I doubt that I am fitter than when I did my half mary last year, but I do think that the endurance experience including IMWI last year helped me push through a bit. I PR'd by just over 2 minutes, so that's success! And while I don't like running all that much, I am curious what I could do with some focused run training... What would you do differently?: -Train more -Focus more on peeing before the race so I don't have to stop to pee at mile 4 -Train more -Try to go out a bit easier--I felt I did but obviously I slowed down over the course of the race -Train more -Take a third gel on the run -Train more Post race
Warm down: Grabbed my Endurox from the car and walked around. Did some basic leg stretches. Met up with Lori, who won the Athena class in the 5k. Woot! Also chatted with tall tri dad and PhilE. What limited your ability to perform faster: Limited run mileage. I just don't enjoy running that much though! Event comments: Fantastic course. They started a few minutes late due to bathroom lines, which was fine with me! Definitely recommend this race for anyone looking for a late summer half mary. Last updated: 2008-07-08 12:00 AM
