![]() Swim
Comments: The swim portion was so shallow that most of the athletes decided to run in the waist deep water rather than swim. I ran 80% of the distance, swam the other 20%. It was just as quick to run it as it was to swim, and since I'm not the greatest swimmer, I choose to take the easy way. What would you do differently?: nothing. I finished in the top pack and still had plenty of energy left. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The transition went well. I had my shoes already tied, so after putting my socks on I slid my feet into my shoes. Threw my shirt on, put my helmet on, grabbed my sunglasses and bike and ran out of the transition zone. What would you do differently?: I really don't know where I could pick up more time. Maybe with more practice I could be more efficient getting my gear on when I'm out of breath and shaking. ![]() Bike
Comments: I made up a lot of time on the bike. My bike computer said my average speed was over 21mph with a max speed of 26mph. I felt really strong during the ride, I have to give credit to my adrenaline since none of my training rides ever got to those speeds. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I went out hard to catch people, tried to pick up the pace after the half way point to pick off the tired athletes, and slowed down my pace during the last half mile to get ready for the run. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: My legs felt like jelly, but the transition was pretty fast. I wasted time making sure my bike was racked properly so it didn't fall over. ![]() Run
Comments: I had to stop 5 times because of cramping in my calf or a side stitch. It was a hot a humid day so it made it hard to breathe and stay cool. What would you do differently?: Definately need to spend more time running. This was the most exhausting part of the race. I would have stronger legs if I had run more. ![]() Post race
Warm down: I felt too tired to warm down. However I did stretch a little after taking in some water and fruit. Event comments: This was my first triathlon, and after completing it I will definately do it again. The volunteers were very helpful and nice, and the race seemed very organized. woke up at 6am, jumped in the shower to wake up and loosen my muscles. I had a light breakfast which was easy to digest (2 goo packs, yogert, banana, poweraid), I didn't want something heavy sitting in my stomach.
My warmup consisted of a short bike ride to loosen up my legs and get the blood pumping. It was a hot and humid morning so it didn't take much to get the muscles loose.
