Swim
Comments: I never got comfortable in the water. This was only my second ever OWS and my first with so many people. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right..." I was getting jostled and kicked. Lots of traffic. I just couldn't seem to find open water for long enough to get in my groove. In the middle leg of the course I got boxed in with a slower crowd and couldn't get clear so I had to just glide along. Got some free water after I rounded the last bouy but by then I was already way off pace. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. Also need to work on rounding the bouy. Making 90 degree turns while swimming is awkward to say the least. Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run from the beach to the bike. My main goal was to not break my feet running barefoot on the pavement. There was a big pile of rubble - for lack of a better term - right where my bike was racked. I tried my best to avoid getting all those bits of gravel and pavement stuck to my feet but no such luck. I had to spend extra time getting the feet cleaned off so I could get my shoes on. I was pleased with how easily I got on the bike and clipped in. Bike
Comments: Pretty happy with my bike leg. Mostly downhills on the way out - got to spend a lot of time in the big ring. A few sharp turns and some rough patches in the pavement kept everyone from really opening up. But, as we all know, downhill on the way out means uphill on the way back. Nothing too tough or steep just a few longish climbs. I just dropped into a lower gear and spun my way up. What would you do differently?: Maybe could have pushed a little bit harder but overall pleased with my bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: Fairly smooth transition. Tried to keep feet clean as switched out of bike shoes and into running shoes. I apparently didn't do a very good job. I ended up with a blister on my little toe from a small bit of something or other that managed to stay stuck to my foot. Run
Comments: Felt great running off the bike. I really took it pretty easy on the run. I picked up the pace for the last mile and a nice downhill at the end made for a fun sprint to the finish. Post race
Event comments: I had a ton of fun at this race. I'll definitly do it again next year. Last updated: 2008-07-09 12:00 AM

Packed and loaded gear on Friday night. Up early on Saturday morning to make the one hour drive to the race site. Had my usual breakfast of english muffin with PB and a banana.
Got transition area all set up and hit the restroom. Did a little gabbing with some friends.
Easy jog to get the blood pumping.
