Swim
Comments: I love the swim. I train the most for it. I was relaxed and passed people from 2 heats in front of me (8 minutes ahead of me). My start was good, I was able to run ahead of most people from my wave by doing kind of a high gallop (I'm very tall). At a little over knee-deep water I was able to do one lunge, push off the bottom and one big butterfly stroke and then it got deep enough to start the swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing, really. Transition 1
Comments: I could not get clipped in. It's so much easier when your heartrate is not 150+. What would you do differently?: Stop, clip in one foot, then go. Bike
Comments: I thought the slow inclines were worse than the short steep inclines. Just my opinion. The course is definitely not 20K (12.43). They calculate speeds based on 12.0 miles but my bike computer showed more like 11.5 (don't know if it's totally accurate, though) What would you do differently?: Prepare to push up the hills harder. Transition 2
Comments: Since I had very little distance to travel in T2, I decided not to try riding with feet on top of shoes. This may have cost me a little, but not too much. Run
Comments: I wasn't feeling comfortable. I thought I was going slower than I really was, though. My interval training helped - I was almost 30 seconds faster per mile vs June. I was feeling dehydrated and burpy. What would you do differently?: Make sure I get water and not whatever yellowy liquid they handed me at the start of the run. Post race
Warm down: Drink water - drink more water. Some stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think the heat to some degree (no pun intended). Event comments: I would do this one again - especially with the Dec discount. Last updated: 2008-07-10 12:00 AM

Got a good bike rack spot and got my bib number and t-shirt. I laid out my run shoes, bike shoes and small towel. I placed my race belt under the run shoes and my helmet on the bars of my bike.
I put on the wetsuit a good 30 minutes before the 1st wave - I like to warm up in the water more than anything.
