![]() Swim
Comments: ok so there is no way to "jump over" a wave...first one knocked me back pretty good, and I was already behind the pack. I started to dive under all of them like the others and was able to get past the break. The it becamse an awesome swim experience, the waves still rising (not breaking this time), the view, the hidden fear of "Jaws" in the back of my consciousness adding to the excitement of the first ocean swim. Loved it! Swim time sucks, but the wave element skews the results, so I don't care. What would you do differently?: hrm not sure, maybe something like train in the ocean... ![]() Transition 1
Comments: relatively long run from the beach to the transition here What would you do differently?: nothing today ![]() Bike
Comments: I was riding with only my front aero wheel because my back one had a problem with the valve extender at 10pm last night (serves me right for deciding to do this the last minute) so I had to use a regular/training wheel in the back. What would you do differently?: have both wheels, otherwise the bike was good, ![]() Transition 2
Comments: not much here, I stopped putting on socks for sprints, it makes a big difference in T2 ![]() Run
Comments: ran out comfortably, continued at comfortable pace, was determined the entire race not to go all out, just enjoy it. Picked it up the last 1/2mile, and thought to myself, I could have ran this fast the whole time, by then I was at the finish ![]() Post race
Warm down: drank, walked around What limited your ability to perform faster: no training for almost 4 weeks, new climate, not used to Florida heat yet Event comments: So I look at the results printout and there is says my name next to the #3 for the clydesdale division. I stayed for the awards ceremony and got my first hardware in a triathlon. Im glad I decided to race today. Last updated: 2008-07-12 12:00 AM

I signed up for this triathlon over a month ago, and in the past 4 weeks all I got a chance to do is run twice. No other training because of the move to Florida, starting new job, blah blah blah. So I almost decided not to do this race, but last night I changed my mind. I told myself to just go check out the local tri community, do the race nice and easy, more of a "walk in the park" type thing.
Drove to the race, ate a cliff bar and drank water. I got there pretty late, could not find a parking spot at first. Then only had 10 min to set up transition before race start.
stood on the beach looking suspiciously at the grey clouds above and the grey waves crashing below. The announcer said the if people did not want to do the swim portion it was ok, because of the conditions this morning, they still could bike and run, their results would just not count. I decided to at least go in the water before the start and see what it feels like, it was going to be my first ocean swim after all.
