Swim
Comments: Didn't have a wetsuit but luckily the water wasn't too bad so I was ok. Tried to get as far up front as I could at the start but still ended up having to stop a couple times once we started. After a couple hundred yards I just went to the outside and started passing people. Should have done a little more sighting. Went a little too far outside a few times. Overall felt pretty solid on the swim and came out near the front. The swim seemed a bit longer than advertised to be honest. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little too long in T1 cause I was kind of dizzy from the swim. Sat down on my towel and dried my feet off and put my shoes, shirt and number then put everything in my bag and hopped on the bike. Looks like T1 times were added into Swim also. Bike
Comments: Legs were a bit tired coming out of the swim and took me about a mile to get them feeling comfortable. Got passed by quite a few people, probably 30 or so.Was doing great until the beastly hill. Definitely need to do more hill climbing to be prepared for that. Once I hit the top though the 4 mile downhill was awesome. I decided to just go for it and pedaled up to speed and then couldn't pedal fast enough to make a difference so I just coasted downhill for about 1-2 miles straight. It was very nice to rest the legs after that uphill. Did real good coming into the flat and climbed the next hill very good. Once I hit the top of that was just spinning along doing a fairly solid pace. One last big downhill right before amity road turn and I went too fast and couldn't turn sharp enough and ended up going almost on the the left lane shoulder, luckily no one was coming or I probably would have gone to the hospital. After that just kept plugging along. Finished really strong. Had two bags of Cliff Shot Blocks and drank both my water bottles on the bike also which worked out very nicely. What would you do differently?: Work on more hills. Was in my super hill climbing gear and just barely managed to make it up the hill. Transition 2
Comments: Don't have clipless pedals so already had shoes on. Racked bike took off helmet and started running. T2 time added into the bike time. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Leg's were pretty spent from the bike but I just started going. I felt like I was going pretty slow but I was moving along steadily. I was really tired after just a mile or so and wanted to walk but I knew if I stopped it would be the end of my running so I just kept going. Finally stopped around mile 4 or so and walked for about 30 seconds. Of course after that I ended up walking 3 more times between then and the finish, which is why I didn't want to stop. Super ecstatic to finally see the finish and hear them call my name out. Also stopped to walk the aid stations because I can't drink out of a cup and run. What would you do differently?: Definitely needed a bit more run training. Had some shin splint issues the last two weeks so run training has been very minimal. Post race
Event comments: I loved this race. It was my first one so not much to compare to but I thought it was very well put together. The swim may have been a bit long but other than that it was great. Course was very clearly marked, volunteers were helpful, aid stations were good and overall I just had a blast. For having just started training 6 weeks ago I think I did great. My main goal was to just finish but in the back of my head the thought that I had been squashing was going under three hours and I just managed to do it. Last updated: 2008-07-12 12:00 AM

Ate a bagel with turkey and cheese. Pumped up the tires and hit the road. Got there super early and grabbed a pretty good spot for T1. Saw Mark and went and talked to him for a little bit. Got ready to freeze my butt off.
