Total Time = 6h 06m 50s
Overall Rank = 426/590
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 53/63
Pre-race routine:

Early rise, bagel and penutbutter plus banana.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up, the race coordinator called a special meeting and advised that there was some severe weather approaching and that we needed to get started right away! All the waves left very quickly after that so no time to warm up swim like I usually do.
Swim
  • 43m 27s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Chip time was not calculated until you ran to the top of a large hill. I exited the water at 41 minutes which was 4 minutes better than last year without a wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

This was a good transition.
What would you do differently?:

I would just pick up the pace a little. Plus ran into a friend in the transition area and I talked with him while I changed which slowed things down.
Bike
  • 2h 56m 57s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Things went really well. Again I turned a faster average than last year which brought me in just under the 3 hour mark
What would you do differently?:

Go faster!!
Transition 2
  • 05m 16s
Comments:

Took time to go to the bathroom (Didn't want to wait in lines on run course)
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace a little
Run
  • 2h 18m 24s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

This is by far my hardest event. But with that said I am very happy with my performance this year. I felt 100 times better than I did last year. My fueling changes made the biggest difference.
What would you do differently?:

Hit the weights more and my cor workout. I also need to add intervals into my training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around the wonderful finish area and ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My main goals this year were to have a better time and to feel better during and after the race. I have met both these goals and feel very good about my nutrition break through! The Hammer products blog site has alot of people who know alot about nutrition and the use of Hammer products. Taking some time to read these blogs and dial in my fueling was the difference between a great race and a miserable one. I am looking forward to taking this new approach to the Louisville Ironman. I really had a great time and it was neat to be able to actually stick to a race plan because I felt good enough to do it.

Event comments:

Thse guys once again put on a fabulous race. I hope to be back again next year!
