Swim
Comments: When the race began, i ran into the water and when my googles hit the water (from me diving in), they came off. Not such a good start. Then for the next 150m or so, i swam in a pack (this was sorta new to me as i've only been in 3 other OWS but not anything like a race). During that same 150m i was breathing every stroke and i was finding it difficult to relax. After rounding the first bouy, i noticed that i was in the first pack of swimmers in my wave, which felt great and helped me to relax. After rounding the second bouy and returning to shore, i found my stroke and relaxed, breathing every 3rd stroke. I was able to come out of the water right behind the leading pack in my wave, which game me an energy boost. My run out of the water and into T1 was strong, and i entered T1 with the googles and cap already off my head! What would you do differently?: IDK what i would have done differently, i just need more races under my belt, so i can become more comfortable in a group. Also need to figure out what i need to do in order to keep the googles on tight! Transition 1
Comments: Strong run into T1 and i found my bike ok! I was able to get my shoes, glasses, and helmet on without and issues. Although i did take a second to try and wipe my feet then told myself forget it and go! The run out of T1 was strong and i was able to mount my bike and work up to speed well! What would you do differently?: Not think about wiping my feet off. Again i think this is an area where experience will help me, as in the future i plan to run out and have my shoes already attached to the bike. Bike
Comments: I felt great on the bike. I caught one person and was passed by one person (so i basically held my position on the bike)! I felt good on the Tri bike considering i have only riden it 3 times prior to the race. What would you do differently?: If i could have done anything differently, maybe it would have been to put in a bigger gear to ride just a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: I felt that i did a great job with T2. Dismount of my bike, running to my spot, racking the bike, taking my helmet off, and putting the running shoes on... What would you do differently?: Nothing, just improve the time through practice and more experience in races. Run
Comments: Well, im not proud of this run, considering this should be my strongest part, but things happen and i simply had to roll with the punches. I was running quickly, but i ran through the first mile at 6:15. I had made up ground and caught one person, but around 1 1/2 miles into the run, my stomack said thats enough and up came liquids. I tried to run again and up came some more...finally after about 2 mins, i was able to run again. Of course during those two minutes about 5 people passed me, including two or three in my AG. At this point i wasn't really able to turn the legs over and try to make up the ground, rather i was running simply to complete my first triathlon. What would you do differently?: Idk what i could have done differently. Of course i would have liked not to have thrown up, but things happen. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: If i think about, I want to say pre race nutrition played a role in hindering my overall performance and mainly in the run. I at when i woke up at 4am, but i didn't eat again until after the race and i feel that i should have eaten at some point inbetween 4 and 8am when the race started. Other then that im proud of my performance... Event comments: This was my first tri and its a perfect first tri! The water was warm, the ride was mainly flat, and the run was flat and shaded. Again, a great first times race. Keeping along the lines of that, i was fortunate enough to win the 1st Timers Award for the fastest time for a person competing in there first triathlon. At 7am, i began warming up, by running for ten minutes with a few striders. I then wanted to ride the bike a little, but being my first race, i was worried about my transition spot. About 15 minutes prior to the race, i got in the water and did about 150m of swimming.
