Pre-race routine:

Walked around in a daze asking myself why in the world I was doing a triathlon without training for it - especially as I am 5 weeks pregnant.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 07m 30s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I actually felt OK in the pool even though I have been in a pool about 6 times since I did Columbia last May (as in 2007). I was understandably significantly slower than the last time I did this race. I think I went 6:45 in the pool last time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing as far as the actual swim goes, except may start slower. Thing is, I didn't feel as though I was going to fast and I didn't realize I had slowed so much by the end.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No idea. Don't have any of my splits yet and I don't know they they did transitions. I was slow since I wasn't planning on racing hard.

I got a new skirt and I work it on the bike. Super comfy. Has buttons for the race number so I put this on in T1.
Bike
  • 50m
  • 15 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a solid bike. I believe I was only about 1:30 slower than when I did the race 3 years ago and was 11 minutes faster overall. I am very pleased with that because I have done no bike training. As with my swim, I have probably been on the bike perhaps 10 times since last May (2007). I didn't race all out either. When I felt my legs begin to burn, I backed off slightly. Due to my medical issues, I didn't want to overdo it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I wore a race skirt for the first time. I put in on in T1 so all I had to do was switch shoes. I almost forgot to take off my helmet.
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I really backed off on the run because I was afraid of over-heating. I ran the first two miles slowly (carried my gatorade for the first mile), then cranked it up a bit for the third.
What would you do differently?:

I could have run a lot harder but under the circumstances, I chose not to.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pregnancy - self-imposed limit on how hard I would race.

Event comments:

I love this race. I have always raced well at it. I was 11 minutes slower this year than I was 3 years ago but I have a good excuse. It has been a trying year for my health (I had mono earlier in the year which had me bed-ridden for almost 2 months).

DH says I started out too fast. Said my first 50 was on 6:40 pace but it went downhill from there.
