Overall Rank = 527/835
Age Group = 80-99 (Team)
Age Group Rank = 4/6
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30. Had a cup of coffee and a bowl of raisin & spice oatmeal. Took a shower and hopped in the car to go.
Event warmup:

None really. I walked around with my father and he swam to warm up but the water was so warm I didn't feel the need to get in.
Swim
  • 24m 40s
  • 800 meters
  • 03m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

There was plenty of support for the swim. There were a ton of kayaks out there as well as boats. I got kicked in the mouth and goggles not far from the start. I swallowed a good bit of water and my right eye never suctioned properly after that. I had to stop every so often to let the water out. I did not breathe properly and even get into any type of stride until I hit the first buoy. After the first buoy I relaxed and started to actually swim.
What would you do differently?:

Try to relax and find my rythm faster.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

I ran up to transition as it was a pretty good distance. I found my transition area quickly and was a little slow on getting the rocks and dirt off of my feet before putting on my cycling shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Leave some water @ my transition mat to wash my feet off.
Bike
  • 37m 47s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.06 mile/hr
Comments:

There were a good bit of hills on the bike course. I saw alot of people that were just creeping up the hills. I found it alot easier to just keep the pace up and push through to the top. Once you stop, you're done.
What would you do differently?:

Besides going faster nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

I had to put on my knee brace and it was proving to be a challenge. I was in transition way too long.
What would you do differently?:

Get faster with the knee brace if I need to use it again.
Run
  • 33m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

My knee started to hurt pretty good right after the first turn around (maybe 1/2 mile). I had to slow poke it all the way.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I dealt with my knee pain the best I could. Hopefully it will get better soon.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for a minute or so and then went to cheer on the others.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My knee problem.

Event comments:

Jack and Adams seems to always put on great events.
