Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 15-19
Age Group Rank = 7/11
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bowl of Wheaties, banana, and had a power bar an hour before race start.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 18s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was warm and calm. Did pretty good with sighting each buoy. Came out of the water at a decent heart rate.
What would you do differently?:

Draft more. There were times when I was able to but then lost sight of the person I was drafting. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Took too long getting sock and shoes on. Also I was really worried about tearing my race number as I was putting my shirt on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice with shoes already clipped in and get a race belt so I don't ruin my jersey or have to worry about tearing race number.
Bike
  • 39m 7s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I just wanted to make it through the bike leg with no mechanical failures. The previous few weeks my gears were shifting on their own all over the place, particularly when climbing hills. There were downhills where I wish I could have gone faster, but simply couldn't which was disappointing. But, I made it to T2 and my legs felt pretty good. Last ride on a hybrid though. Woohoo!
What would you do differently?:

Have a tri bike now so I just need to get use to being in the aeroposition and prepare for the next race.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Slip out of shoes in dismount area. Lost a few seconds having to take off my bike shoes and trade them out for my running shoes.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.4 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Overall a challenging but nice scenic run through the local neighborhood.
What would you do differently?:

Train on more hills and work on running a sub 8 minute mile throughout the race. And remember to stop my watch when crossing the finish line. Not when I get in the car to check what time it is.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched a little. Drank a lot of water, ate a banana and took advantage of some free clif electrolyte chews.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike gears randomly shifting mostly. Getting more running under my belt should help overall as well.

Event comments:

Really liked the race except I would like to see them use timing chips next year.
