Swim
Comments: I started out a little slow and stayed to the far right so I could avoid all the traffic. This helped out a lot as I was able to pass the slower swimmers without having to swim over the top of anyone. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace after rounding the second bouy. I didn't start out fast and tried to focus on keeping my rhythm the entire swim, where I think I could of picked it up in the middle of the course and made up about 30 seconds overall. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time and made sure I had everthing before leaving. Bike
Comments: I felt like I got out strong and got a good cadence going until I was at the 7 km mark, then my chain came off. Needless to say, that through me off. I had to slow down and stop, get the chain back on (wipe the grease off my hands in the dirt) and get back at it. I think the overall experience took a couple of minutes off my time, but who knows? It was very frustrating. I guess that's what happens sometimes when you're still riding a 20 year old KHS. What would you do differently?: I would like to buy a new bike for next year and do the same course and see what my splits are. Transition 2
Comments: Easy effort. Bike stuff off, run stuff on, sip of gatorade and I was out for the run. Run
Comments: At my age, I now enjoy trail runs more than concrete or asphalt because there isn't as much pain with all the pounding. I felt pretty good, however, my lower back started to tighten up about one mile into the run. After the turn around it didn't seem to be as tight. I thought my run back was a little faster than my first half out. What would you do differently?: Practice my transition from the bike to the run. I would like to be able to take a few mins off my run so I guess I need to run longer distances. Most of my training is at the 3-4 mile distance. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and drank a lot of fluids. Did a little stretching prior to leaving. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think my chain coming off early in the bike cut into my overall time as it not only affected me physiclly, i.e., my bike, but mentally as well. I just couldn't get a good rhythm going after I got my chain back on. Event comments: This was my second year at this event and I really enjoy it. It's close to home (w/n an hour), has a lake swim in warm water, and the bike and run courses are also enjoyable. To top things off, I felt that all the volunteers did a great job. I would recommend this event to all beginners and intermediate triathloners. Last updated: 2008-07-16 12:00 AM

Up at 4:45 for the hour-long drive to the race. Some toast and an can of Ensure Wild Berry for breakfast. Took a cup of coffee with me and made great time arriving at the park by 6 am. I had registered on Saturday so all I needed to do was rack my bike and warm up for the race.
Stretching and a short swim out to the first bouy.
