Swim
Comments: I knew going into this race that I wasn't going to do great. With rush, getting sick, and hurting my shoulder I didn't spend a whole lot of time in the pool the last month. I just wanted to get out in under 8 minutes, done. But, I did a poor job of sighting the first buoy and swam in a little and had to come back outwards. Also, the first buoy was packed full of people and I had to stop for a little bit so that was frustrating to lose time there. What would you do differently?: Sight breathe more and better. Transition 1
Comments: Not as good as it should have been. I didn't do a flying mount and forgot to put my bike in the appropriate gear. Not smart but definitely something to learn from. What would you do differently?: Practice flying mount and remember to put gear in lower ring. Bike
Comments: Loved the bike leg for the most part. At mile 2 we hit a no pass zone on a bridge and that was a buzz kill. But, I guess it hit everybody. Just depends on how fast the guy you were tailing was going. Other than that the course was nice for the most part. It had fast sections and some decent climbing. This was my first race on my new tri bike and I absolutely loved every minute of it. What would you do differently?: Not too much. Just need to continue to get stronger. I need to be able to push harder on downhills. Transition 2
Comments: Stupid transition on my part. I forgot to unstrap my shoes and ride on top of them. So I wasted some seconds trying to get off my wet cycling shoe. Other than that I guess it was ok. Not great, not terrible. What would you do differently?: Remember to ride in on top of my shoes. Again, a learning experience. Run
Comments: The first half mile my hamstrings and calves were tight and I was a little worried about how well I would perform due to a lack of brick workouts. Luckily I was able to push past it and move on. I still wish that I could have pushed a little bit harder and would go sub 22 but I'm still happy with what I got. This was my fastest 5k in a race yet, so I am proud about the PR there. What would you do differently?: Push myself a little bit harder. Post race
Warm down: Had a Advocare post workout recovery drink at the finish line and then walked around for a while drinking water and stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim and transitions mostly. Event comments: The t-shirt was rather disappointing. But overall I enjoyed the race. Last updated: 2008-07-19 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and had a bowl of wheaties, a banana, and water. And I actually left the house on time at 5.
Ran for about 5 minutes and swam for just a few minutes to loosen up before the pre-race meeting.
