Pre-race routine:

Nothing special. Got up early so we wouldn't be rushed at the race site. Set up the transition area and found a picnic table away from the main race area to relax and unwind before the race.
Event warmup:

Some minimal walking.
Swim
  • 21m 47s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Horrible swim. I ended up at the front of the wave at the start so I burned myself out trying to keep the pack from catching up to me. I got off course several times, almost 20 yards off course a couple of times. My body just wanted to veer left for whatever reason. After I rounded the first buoy and paralleled shore I was okay for the rest of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Sighting. For some reason that lake doesn't like me. I ran into sighting issues at Longhorn in 2007 as well.
Transition 1
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

Another good transition. Made sure to dump water on my head from the aid station coming out of the water, which always feels good. My feet were dirty from the dirt/grass in the transition area but I had an extra water bottle to clean my feet off, which was very nice to have around.
Bike
  • 35m 44s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a good ride. I rode for 2-3 miles at a light effort with a high cadence to warm up, then got serious and picked the pace up. I was averaging 22-16 mph for the next 3-4 miles and then slowed down for the second half of the ride, but held a good pace, especially with the hills. The second half of the course had some head wind, especially when we turned onto the feeder road of the toll road and were on the open hillside headed down the hill.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe a little slower when I picked the pace up. It's hard to do since you're pumped with the race but I should focus on a more controlled pace next time. I tried fueling about a half mile before transition. If I need to fuel before the run again, I should fuel further out on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

I came into transition and Erin had beat me in by about a minute. She hung out while I got ready for the run and we headed out for the run portion together. Very cool!
Run
  • 32m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

What a fun run. Erin and I met up in transition and headed out for a "leisurely" run. We had fun cheering on the other competitors and sharing stories from our other legs of the race. We finished at the same time and hammed it up for the camera by holding hands and holding our hands above our heads as we crossed
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking and rehydrating. Finally managed to get signed up for a ten minute massage, which was great. Had a good rub down of my calves, which were tired from the race, the running and the cycling we were doing in the days leading up to the race.

Event comments:

It was a great race. Other than pushing it off to fast at the start of the swim and some poor sighting, I was very happy with my performance. I enjoy the course and they had a great post race party, which can make or break a race.
