Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am, ate a Zone Bar, packed up bag and was out the door by 4:45.
Event warmup:

Set up transition area, walked around beach area, and visited bathroom numerous times. Tried not to think about 63° was temperature. Ate part of Zone Bar about 1 hour before wave start.

Comments:

The water was very cold. For the first 1/2 of swim I couldn't get my face in the water without hyperventilating. Did breast stroke for most of the race. Even with the cold, my swim time improved 5 minutes from my races last year.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS practice before next race.

I would have liked to do the front crawl for most of the race, like I've been practicing, but I had a very difficult time keeping my face in the water due to the cold.

By mile 2 of the run I was able to get into groove. Still walked through water stops.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, banana, a little stretching and enjoyed talking over the race with family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Breathing problems during the swim. Felt great on bike and run portions.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed the race and would do it again. It was very well organized and well supported. Great raffle prizes at the post race picnic.

I used this race as a practice for my first Oly in August and am very happy with my performance and an looking forward to the next one.
