Total Time = 1h 12m 39s
Overall Rank = 9/330
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

woke up bright(still dark) and early and had a clif bar and a banana. Got on the road for my hour drive to the course.
Event warmup:

Shorter run, probably should have warmed-up more.
Swim
  • 06m
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was great temperature. Being a novice I don't have a wetsuit so I was a bit chilly and decided not to do a warm-up. Everyone started lining up about waist deep. I was near the back and decided I was probably faster than most so I hurried to the front as they blew the horn. Took off and was suprised at my speed since I hadn't swam in about 2 years. Ended up 3rd out of the water about 10-20 seconds back on the leader.
What would you do differently?:

warm up.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

run up a bit of a hill, again first triathlon so nothing to compare it to. felt great to get out of the water and look back to see lots of people still swimming. caught one guy in the T1.
What would you do differently?:

I got stuck trying to put on my t-shirt. next time probably won't worry about it till after the bike.
Bike
  • 40m
  • 14.4 miles
  • 21.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty rough pavement, and more hills than I had hoped for. All turns were pretty well marked except for one. No voulenteer to help only an old lady on a tracktor who didn't tell me which way to turn till after I turned the wrong way. That added a bit of time.
What would you do differently?:

push it harder, and stay in aero position the whole time.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Pretty quick, in and out. was really happy to only see two other bikes on the racks.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 24m
  • 3.3 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I hate running. Probably should get a watch so that I can tell splits and about how far I have left. Run was through the woods so pretty hard to judge distance. Near the end you pop out of the woods and you can see the finish line, but they trick you and you still have about half a mile.
What would you do differently?:

train more on my feet instead of the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

biked around for a bit then had subway and lots of gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the fact that I finished rowing season 5 days prior and only had that long to train.

Event comments:

Great first Tri. I'm definatley(*sp?) hooked.
