Swim
Comments: This swim was great. My actual water time was 6:49. It was a staggered start with a swimmer going every 3 seconds. Everyone went left, so I straight right and true and rounded every buoy perfect, except for the last one, which I didn't see, so I headed for the finish, and had to be redirected by a kayak. I had open water most of the way and passed everyone. My stroke was perfect. Thanks Todd! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Sighting was easy since it was so overcast and cloudy. Much easier than the sun. Transition 1
Comments: I opted not to use the wetsuit strippers and just did my own. It worked out great. This T1 was one of the top 5 fastest times out of all 290 women. What would you do differently?: Since it was so cold, I took time to put on a jacket, but didn't think to zip it so it was flapping like a parachute. I spent some time tucking it into my shorts and shirt. In hindsight, I didn't even need it. I was warm. Bike
Comments: I was messing with stuff this entire bike and that may have slowed me down. Whether it was my jacket or my gloves or my gel. I did ride this really hard, though. I was huffing like a grizzly bear coming up to pass people and at one point I was chanting "Hup, Hup, Hup" out loud. People probably thought I was nuts...but I was passing them, so I didn't care! The wheels rocked! What would you do differently?: Forget the jacket and just ride. Transition 2
Comments: Perfect T2. One of the fastest 5 times again. If I didn't have the stupid jacket, it would have been easier as I took it off. Run
Comments: This was a great run for me. I have never felt that good off a bike. My feet were numb, but my shoulders were relaxed, my stride was long and my lungs felt great. No side cramping until the last 1/2 mile. The first mile was 9:00, and I must have held that. What would you do differently?: Run 10 seconds faster so I could have broken 9:00 miles! But I really did feel as if I left almost everything out there. Post race
Warm down: Put on the shirt they gave us as I was chilled, water, bagel sandwich, fruit. Walked around with KriTtris. Changed clothes in the car like a bunch of giggling high-schoolers, came back down to look at race results. KrisTtris rocked this race. She was so speedy and set a PB too! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep? As this was a PB by 3 minutes, I'm not going to complain. I DO hate that I got 3 minutes faster and stayed the same rank in my age group as last year. Grrrr. Event comments: As always, a fantastic race under difficult circumstances. I woke up after a terrible nights sleep. My youngest wouldn't sleep and came into bed with us at 11:30. I fell asleep at 1:30, fitfully, and slept until 4:30 when the alarm went off. I rained all night and I was afraid it would be rainy for the race but it held off and was perfect weather.
Quick 5 minute swim to loosen up the arms. Kept my clothes on until the last minute. I went with KrisTtris, so it was really nice to have company!
