Swim
Comments: The swim was a dog fight. It seemed even more congested than last year. I was climbed on and really had to fight my way out. Scary at times. I drafted well, and overall good. I was stuck many times behind slower swimmers and it was hard to get around them. Second loop was better, more open water. Was worried about the rain and the bike. I had to held it togetter and stay in the moment. I was overall pleased but off by a min from my swim last year. What would you do differently?: My position i guess. I should have swam faster. 2 days before i swam a loop in 37 and my first loop during the race was 36 so i don't know when i slowed down. It was congested especially at the turn around. I think i should have pushed it more to get to my goal time of 1:10 Transition 1
Comments: good t1. It was tough in the rain. Long run to tent. I had to dress outside 'cause i coudn't see a thing in the tent. Of course didn't have a vest or arm warmers..weather forecast was so off on sunday. What would you do differently?: have more choices of dress apparel in bag. Never know about the weather in LP. Improved my time from last year by 5min though so that was good. Bike
Comments: So many things to say about the bike. It was raining so hard and was worried about the downhill but after a few hills before the real downhill felt ok with it and my carbon breaks and tubulars we're not that bad and it would be fine. I was in a good space mentally even though the conditions we're bad. I was going along and right away my powertap didn't have any power data, just cadence which i could work with. Just trying to keep it in the 90's..but then i would keep losing the screen. In the out and back, my teamate Kevin told me to press on find and would hopefully find it, it would but kept losing it. A lot of people told me their wasn't working either so i had to go by feel. First loop was 3:30ish so i was happy with it. I also lost the long straw from my aero btle so really had to bend over to get a drink and then the craziest thing happened when i tried to open a gel and my front bridge( my top 5 teeth) broke off!! I stop, put them in my bike bag and finished the race with no front teeth!! I had to changed my nutrition and go entirely on liquid( could not eat solids anymore). the second loop definitly went slower and was challenging to stay focused.i was getting cold but was thankful that i had a vest in special needs. it was tough not to take in solids. What would you do differently?: I'm dissapointed with my power tap. I did my entire training with power and to not have the data and going by feel was tough. Losing my teeth, straw from aero btle we're definte low points but really didn't affect my performance to much but did bother me mentally. Transition 2
Comments: good t2. it was dark in the tent. I didn't want volunteer to help me . Felt self consious about my teeth..Improved my time by 2min from last year. it was really muddy in the tent. What would you do differently?: nothing much. closed my bags better. my shoes and socks we're wet. Run
Comments: I started the run feeling good and was running well. My plan was to walk the aid station and hills. I prettry much did that for the first 10miles and then wen't with 4/1 run/walk. the last 6 we're tough. We we're leaving on the out and back so it was nice to see my husband and kids there and made that part so much better than last year. It was cold toward the end and grabbed a space blanket. I was so self counsious about my teeth and didn't really say much to anybody. I was ok with my time. I wanted to be under 5 but overall satisfied. What would you do differently?: push mentally more. training for the run maybe a bit differently and try to run harder. Post race
Warm down: It was weird but was more emotional at the finish line than last year. Got my medle and picture, found my husband, got a massage, changed and drove back home. I was starving and tried to eat soft pasta. What limited your ability to perform faster: rain conditions, cold, no solid nutrion, mentally hard with setback( teeth), no data on bike made really hard also Event comments: IMLP is a great race. I do think though that the swim is nuts and somebody will die or get really injured one of these days. My coach who is an amazing swimmer( under 1h swim) dnf this race because of concusion in the swim. 3 elbow hits to the end. It doesn't seem like swimmers we're who we're in the front we're seeding themselves correctly and it made more congestion. Maybe a start like kentucky would be better( spacing of 1sec between athletes) Overall good event, my second time was as sweet.Improved my time by 27mins from last year and even though wasn't under 14 , i was satisfied with my time considering conditions. got up at 3:45. Felt good. Bf of bagel,pb,banana and ensure. Drove to race site with coach and teamate. Long walk to race site.bodymark, pump tires, freaked a bit because no sponge in aero bottle( had to buy one!) got to swim start.
swam a bit and found spot 20 yards in middle of start line. Last year i started more right and thought this would be a better spot.
