Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45, grabbed my bag and biked over to the race. Its nice having a race close to home for a change.
Event warmup:

None. Stretched a little.
Swim
  • 05m 19s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a good swim for me. 20 seconds slower than last years. Need some coaching to work on technique.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster, get more training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Race had a short pool swim, and I decided to swim without my trishirt, which was a mistake, as it took me at least a minute to get it on during T1, hence the slow time.
What would you do differently?:

Either wear the shirt the whole time or forsake, but don't try and put dry shirt on when I'm wet.
Bike
  • 27m 13s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.04 mile/hr
Comments:

A little better than last year, but couldn't really find my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Bike faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

This seems to be my average T2 time. Guess I should practice it, or just move faster.
Run
  • 23m 10s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Never really got it together on the run. I had a right calf cramp right at the start of the run, which went away after about a mile. I ran better than a minute a mile faster two weeks ago at the Schaumburg tri. Don't really know why. Didn't get much sleep last nite, but don't know what else it could be.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and got a massage, yeah! That's worth the price of admission alone. Big knot in calf got a little better.

Event comments:

Great little, superbly organized race. Most big races are not even this well organized or equipped. Fun race, I recommend it to all local triathletes.

Course: Lots of turns around suburban Glenview streets. Nice course, but too many 90 degree turns for such a short race. Slowed the pace down a bit. Excellent intersection control by the police, and there were TONS of volunteers directing not only the turns, but also most intersections in the straights.
