Swim
Comments: They advertise this as the fastest swim in triathlon! Maybe if you are in the beginning waves, but to me that was a long-assed tough swim. I don't think the current helped much, I was watching the boats that were moored and they had almost started to turn the other way, so I thnk we had almost slack tide. The good part was that all the other waves must have beat the jellyfish to death, because I never hit one. I thought I was having a pretty good swim, towards the end I had caught a lot of the swimmers from the earlier two waves, I got kicked a couple of times by swimmers breaststroking, but I manages to have a clean swim for the most part. I never saw the guy who had the heart attack, he was gone by the time I got there. What would you do differently?: Get younger so that I could get an earlier swim wave:) Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run back to the transition area, I started a slow jog and then started to feel my calf so I walked the rest of the way in. I'll bet it was 1/4 mile to T1 What would you do differently?: Run in Bike
Comments: This was the hilliest bike course that I have ridden. I knew there were hills going into it, but by the time we turned around in the Bronx I was looking to see if my brake was rubbing, flat tire, etc. That being said, I loved the course, cool to ride on the highway and through a toll booth. The Hudson on one side, the city on the other. What would you do differently?: Not much, my plan was to take it easy and not put too much strain on the calf, looking at my time and seeing how I missed about 5 weeks of riding I was very happy with the bike. Came of feeling good. Transition 2
Comments: Walked the transition, again trying to save the calf. Run
Comments: I had prepared myself to walk the whole way, which I was not looking forward to. I walked all the hills, shuffled along the flats and just kept my pace to where it did not hurt too much. I could feel it when I tried to pick up the pace. What would you do differently?: Run the whole way. Post race
Warm down: Got through the finish, they were handing out nice cold wet towels which felt great. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not being able to run. Event comments: I would recommend this race to anyone. It was very well organized, great volunteers, cool course. We went up with 12 people from out tri club so it was a great weekend overall. I think part of it for me was that I did not think I could do it because of the calf injury, so just being out there for me was great. Last updated: 2008-07-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4am, ate a granola bar, drank a Gatorade and went down to the lobby to catch the shuttle to the transition area. Forgot coffee! Got to the transisition area about 5:15 and set up, I was not in a hurry and did not realize that when it said they closed T1 at 5:45, that meant you had to be out! The guy came by and announced that it was closing in 5 minutes, and if you were not out you were DQ'd. I got out:)
My swim wave was not till 7:54, second to last so I had lot's of time to kill. Sat around and talked to my wife, who had volunteered to do chip handout.
