Swim
Comments: You start two by two with five or so seconds inbetween so it's pretty much clear swimming from the get=go. Just you, the guy next to you, and the grassy, seaweedy type stuff. Water didn't taste different, perfect temperature, not overly bad visibilty, so conditions were pretty good. I went briskly, kept my concentration throughout, and was able to pick up the pace on the last leg without sending my heartrate out of bounds. By my modest standards: Mission Accomplished. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This leg is merely the setup to my stongsuit and so long as I don't try and race beyond my limited means, I'm ok with what I get. Transition 1
Comments: Fastest T1 in my AG but.. It was about to be another alltom1's 'how to blow through T1' right up to when my foot knocked my left shoe out of the pedal. Complete stop. Retrieve. Weave all over exit zone in a vain attempt to set a new world's record for shortest ride out of transition before causing an accident. Yep, it was all there. Thank you! Thank you! I'll be here all week. What would you do differently?: I do so try and ask myself: "alltom1 - What is it that you really want from this experience? Look within, for thou art the Buddha". You can't buy introspection like that from a store, kids. Bike
Comments: Once my 3 Chevy Chase impersonation out of T1 was over, I settled down to work. Legs absolutely did feel springy and I passed everyone in sight except a couple of folks who caught me on the backstretch - Not in my AG - so was perfectly ok with letting them go. Nature of the swim time-trial start is that you can't see who from your age group is having a good day so you don't really get to race the folks you most need to keep an eye on. Sidebar: I bought a new/used car this week and mounted a brand new roof rack last night. I had an unscheduled christening of the car/rack by running into the tip of the garage door with the highest point of the setup - you guessed it - the seat. Cursed my own stupidity. No visible damage. Wrong. Seat came loose at the halfway point on the ride and I went from an aggressive forward setup to seat all the way at the back of the rails. 6th in AG is an average result - Need to review circumstances. What would you do differently?: Dunno..Thought I was moving pretty good. Transition 2
Comments: Maybe just a little awkward getting sneakers on, otherwise pretty quick. Run
Comments: So, this was a good run compared to last couple of sprints and the cool, misty weather had a lot to do with that. Never felt overly stressed and that could be telling me to go harder. A little familiarity with the course is really going to help next time around. I passed a good number of folks and only had one fellow from a different AG pass me right at the last downhill. End came up all in a rush.. What would you do differently?: Have a little more faith in my capacity to hold sub-7min miles. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Honestly, even without a podium spot for the day's work, I have to feel pretty good about the effort. I keep coming back to lack of familiarity with the course as about all that held me, slightly, back. Overall: B+ Event comments: Beautifully run event, in every way. The local tri-club really does themselves proud with this race and I do plan to come back again. Last updated: 2008-07-23 12:00 AM
