Swim
Comments: I SWAM THE WHOLE THING! No doggy paddle, no breaststroke, no kind of floating along. Full out freaking freestyle the whole 750 m! I was horribly slow, but I finished it, even managed to pass a couple people. Even my sighting was good. What would you do differently?: Swim faster??? Which means swim more. Transition 1
Comments: I started to run out of transition and realized my bike wasn't going anywhere easily. Damn flat tire. Plus ignoring sound advice of nothing new on race day, it was a new to me bike. No idea if the guy had been running tubeless or not. So I rip off the tire (once I got enough bearing to realize I was using the wrong end of my tire lever...) and it was tubeless and totally dry. So I rip out the rim strip (thank god for a husband who runs tubeless) and realize there is no rim tape on this thing. So I run it over to Landis Cyclery who had a tent out side of transition and the fixed me up with an electrical tape rim strip and got my tire back together for me. What would you do differently?: Not get a flat? Bike
Comments: I need more practice on the mtn bike. Thankfully we had pre-rode part of the course so I knew little pieces of it. Especially the first downhill section that probably is not nearly as bad as it looks from the top but I walked it all three times. The first lap was a learning lap, the second one rocked and the third actually sucked because by this time it was all the slower, likely less experienced riders and it was hard to pass them sometimes. I also learned how my husband feels when he rides behind me and I stop suddenly. What would you do differently?: More riding. I can still count on 2 hands the times I've ridden it. Also, not get my bike stolen the week before, thus requiring me to borrow/buy and ride a new bike on race day. Transition 2
Comments: Way better than T1. Since I'm still running platforms there was no shoe changing. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was still shaky from the bike so I was pretty clumsy with my stuff. Run
Comments: I still hate running. The trail portion kind of sucked as my legs weren't really used to running after mtn biking which is a different feeling than running after road biking. Once I hit the top of the sidewalk I started feeling a little better since it was all downhill. When I got about .1 mi from the finish a guy caught up to me and made me run with him to the finish. It was actually a run! No jogging here! What would you do differently?: Run more? Post race
Warm down: Tried to take a slide on the slip'n'slide but it seemed to be having some water flow issues and it was more a jump'n'flop. Walked around and grabbed some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: New bike, hate running...flat tire?? Event comments: This was my first off-road race and overall it went pretty well. I had some things I was really happy about and others that just sucked. But it automatically becomes a PR since it has no previous comparison! Worst part was the race was sponsored by PBR but yet there was none at the finish line. Last updated: 2008-07-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:30 (good pick on the hotel that was a mile from the S/F) and got my stuff packed up and the bike back on the car. After the incident in Show Low last weekend, never leaving the bikes on the car overnight again.
Did some stretching and tried not to freak out about the mountain bike portion.
