Comments:

First time I have ever done an ocean open water swim. I felt like I was swimming up hill the whole time. Also, I was not prepared for the amount of salt! Also, the undertow almost made me fall backwards into the water while trying to get out. This was a very difficult swim for me and I loved every minute of it.
What would you do differently?:

Get more practice swimming!

This transition was not the best, but not horrible. I had to use my water bottle from my bike to wash all the sand off my feet... I could have been quicker.
What would you do differently?:

Have a pan of water to walk through to wash my feet off instead of using my water bottle.

This course was longer than advertised. My feet went numb long before the end of the course. I made it through in less than an hour.

Well, when I went to put my bike on the rack, the whole rack fell to the ground, along with three other bikes. You would think that they would have something, other than friction holding up the racks, like a zip tie or duct tape. This would have been a lot faster if it was not for the bike rack.
What would you do differently?:

Double check the bike rack and make sure it will not fall over in T2.

A lot of hills. They describe it as "flat and fast", but not the first mile. Overall, this was a good course.
What would you do differently?:

Get more brick training sessions in!

Event comments:

This was a good race, but their description of the race was not accurate. They said flat and fast, which, maybe 51% of it was. Adding 2 miles onto the bike course a week before the race threw me for a loop, but it was not their fault, road construction. This was a very challenging course for me and I liked that aspect of it. This race did have its problems though.
There was not a lot of parking for this race and you needed to arrive three hours prior to the race start to get a parking spot. Also, the parking for the spectators was very poor. I like the fact they had a shuttle, but it was packed and the overflow parking filled up quickly. There was nothing for the handicapped spectators, like my father. It would have been nice if they had benches or something. Another thing that bothered me, some of the volunteers were just plain rude.
I would like to participate in this race next year, but I think that if I do, I'll have to leave the family at home.
