Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/52
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30 after not sleeping much. Ate a piece of toast with PB and honey and a couple of bananas. Drank accelerade.
Event warmup:

Short swim but not much more other than a few trips to the port a potty!
Swim
  • 14m 51s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good on the swim. Took 3 mins longer than average pool training time so either I swam skew or the course was longer. I think I drifted off course a bit and had trouble sighting with foggy goggles. Still, had a nice swim and should be able to cut a couple of mins off this time.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more in training (only did 1 swim/10 days on average). Swim straighter and not go off course.
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Decent transition for first one ever.
What would you do differently?:

Bike was too tall for rack so had to tilt it. Cost about 5/10 seconds. Other than that it was fine. Put on socks- didnt cost much time. WOuld do socks again.
Bike
  • 43m 8s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Some guy crashed in front of me at finish so had to stop and go around him. Also unclipped one shoe from pedals so had to take that off. Not smooth :-)
What would you do differently?:

Not much- just train harder and not forget to take feet out of shoes in last half mile or so. Remember that bike is too tall for racks so have to tilt it to one side.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Got myself set and then had to go back to get sport beans. Wasted about 20 seconds. Won't make that mistake again. Other than that it went fast as soon as the guy in front of me got out of the way from his crash.
What would you do differently?:

Dont go back for sport beans.
Run
  • 23m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I was very tired and slow on the run. Should be able to do closer to 21 or 22 mins on a course like this. Not enough running in past few months with sore ITB.
What would you do differently?:

Train more running- ITB issues limited training.
Post race
Warm down:

Just milled about with kids. Loved seeing the boys and Becky at finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience, overall fitness level.

Event comments:

Great race- well organized.
