Swim
Comments: Lots of kicking from any women in front of me so drafting wasn't working out too well for me. I had a hard time sighting the final stretch because I wore tinted goggles and they were fogging up and it wasn't that bright out. Once I hit my groove on the swim I felt good about being in the open water. What would you do differently?: Hit my goggles with some anti-fog spray before the race. Transition 1
Comments: Long jog into transition then another trek across the transition area to the bike start. Coordinating balance with my bike shoes was what ate up quite a bit of time in transition. What would you do differently?: Practice T1 and getting my shoes on w/o sitting down to do it to improve my transition speed. Bike
Comments: The first part of the bike was great, rolling hills but a good mix of up and downhills so they were easy to tackle. A series of 3 steep uphills with no downhills or even straightaways in between were tough, so I ended up walking those. The downhills were a lot of fun, with one getting me up to 28 mph. Wheeeeee. What would you do differently?: Train more for hills since I'm just lacking power up big hills. Transition 2
Comments: Had a hard time clipping out of my left pedal, which was frustrating since it wouldn't clip in on the first or second try on getting back on the bike on the last hill I walked. Brisk walk to the back of the transition area and on with the sneaks. What would you do differently?: Remember my race belt since it was right on top of my stuff. Run
Comments: I could not get settled into a decent pace out of T2 and was only able to alternate short periods of a slow jog and walking. Took a Cliff Shot and lots of water since I figured it couldn't hurt and might even help. By mile 2 my legs finally loosened up and I had a good feeling stride and pace for the last mile. What would you do differently?: Do more longer bikes/run bricks to get my legs used to working for me. Post race
Warm down: Walked around vendor area and collected my cheering section (my awesome inlaws). What limited your ability to perform faster: Extra weight I'm carrying around and not being consistent in training the past few months. Event comments: I know my overall time, and since my swim time was the only good time for me we'll just stick with the overall time. My goal was to do a race since I haven't done any in 4 years and just get back into things. I'm happy my in-laws could be there to watch, and I was able to do a Danskin event. No land speed records by any means, but at least I have a baseline to work from for this year and it won't be 4 years again that I'll take off from tris. Not bad for a Sunday morning. Woke up at 4 AM to a spectacular thunderstorm with an unbelievable amount of rain. Got to the race site around 5:15. Tried to stay dry until I could set up my transition area. Delay of an hour for the start due to the weather and a vehicle accident nearby.
Walked between the swim start and the transition area a few times which was a bit of a hike.
