Swim
Comments: I didn't really know what to expect at the start and the first 100-150 meters were tough as I couldn't go more than 4-5 strokes without hitting someone of being hit, but after this point I settled in and was in the clear for the most part. After I settled in, my breathing was much better and I cruised (by my standards!!) into transition. What would you do differently?: Aside from work on my swimming, nothing really. I would expect improving my start will come with experience. I was very pleased with my sighting as I at least think I stayed in a straight line pretty much the whole course. Transition 1
Comments: This is an area that I certainly could improve a ton. I took my time a little too much and didn't really have a sense of urgency, which was probably my main problem. Downed a hammer gel and sipped some water and was off!! What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. This is an area that I can gain free time in and really just need to practice. Bike
Comments: In my opinion, biking is my weakest event so I was actually happy with my performance as I seemed to pass a decent amount of people. Granted I got passes by plenty as well. But I concentrating on just getting into a comfortable pace that I felt was still pushing myself. Drank about 12oz of gatorade on the ride and probably could have used a little bit more. What would you do differently?: Flat out, I need to ride more, I can't think of any better way to get better on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was a little faster than T1, but could still be improved. For whatever reason I had a ton of trouble getting my shoes on. Maybe I need to look into those yankz lace things. But it was still faster than the last transition so that makes me happy. Also took in another hammer gel took a swig of water. What would you do differently?: Put my shoes on!!!! I felt like a 3 year old trying to get his sneakers on. Run
Comments: I had no idea what to expect here. Coming put of transition my legs felt heavy and I thought this was going to be a loooooong 5K. After about 5-6 minutes though my legs felt much better and was running at a decent clip and actually passing people (quite a new feeling that I really get used to!!!!). I grabbed anything that I could drink and downed it as well as the cold wet towels that I wrapped around one of my wrists. The towels were great!! I felt my quad started to cramp a little with about a 1/2 mile remaining but just kept running and got to the finish of my first triathlon!!!! What would you do differently?: I was extremely happy with the run, so not a whole lot. One of my goals heading into the race was not to walk during the run. The only walking I did was during the last aid station which I walked though then started right back up again. Post race
Warm down: Found my fiancee and parents then went over to get my bagged lunch. Stretched some then we went over to find a seat so I could eat. We then went to cheer on the rest of the athletes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness is number one, but it's improving each and every day. I certainly need to improve my transitions and get on the bike more. Event comments: Being my first triathlon I couldn't have asked for anything more. Great weather, organization, and some of the friendliest people in the world. I will definitely be back next year, hopefully ready to tackle the olympic. But overall a great day, the Redrow's did a wonderful job with everything. Last updated: 2008-07-28 12:00 AM

Awoke at 4:00 and gathered my race gear, then checked it about 4958749 more times and finally decided that I had everything. Took a warm shower, ate a bagel and downed some water. Dragged the wifey to be out of bed and we headed up 95 to Jersey.
Found a bathroom!!!! Since this was my first triathlon I was apparently pretty nervous and started sipping my waterbottle unkowingly out the whole way up to the race. Got bodymaked and set my transition area up, checked the pressure in my tires. After I was happy with my spot in transition I warmed up a little bit and checked out the lake and routes out of transition, then ate half of a clif bar. We all headed down to the swim start for the pre-race meeting and for whatever reason my nerves calmed down and I just wanted to get into the water!!
