No wetsuits with water temp at 83. I was happy with the swim, good pace and felt good coming out of the water.

It started raining at the end of the swim and I got held up a bit trying to get my top on for the bike since it had cooled off.

I crashed at the start of the second lap. The road was wet and corning through one intersection by Heinz field, crossing a brick cross walk, I hit the deck. Road rash on the left side and was freaked that my bike was wrecked. The rear wheel popped out and the left hood was bent. Gathered myself, had some fans check the road rash, fixed the bike and started off for the second mountain climb. Lost some significant time but wanted to ensure the bike was ok for the downhill.

My left knee and hip where a distraction from the biff. Paced myself pretty well, used a watch this race which helped a lot. Finished strong and passed an fellow age grouper right at the end which made up for the crash.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was milking a strained right quad and obviously the biting it on the bike.

Event comments:

It's a small race with little sponsorship and the bike course was less than desirable. Oh and no medics to look at road rash which quite a few people had due to the wet bike course. They were only helping if you were broken.

Course: Wow, didn't drive the course the day before and probably a good idea since I would have had nightmares. This was a 2 lap course that was literally up 6 miles and back down. It was on the HOV lane and some rough pavement areas. The rain made it slick at the turns making the 2nd lap.
