Swim
Comments: Awful swim - crowded, choppy, and didn't sight worth a damn. Easily added another 100m to the swim. Found some rhythm about halfway through the first lap though, and settled down some. Very slow still, not sure if it was me swimming zig-zag or the beach run or both. What would you do differently?: Start a little farther back in the wave, less crowded. Transition 1
Comments: Did ok, here, not much wasted motion. Had to hose off feet with a water bottle (brought just for that purpose) to get the sand off, but it went quickly. What would you do differently?: Eventually need to practice getting starting with the shoes clipped into the bike. Bike
Comments: A little slower than the last race, but the course was a bit tougher, with longer hills and not so many rollers. 2nd goal was to have a decent bike split, and 40 of 235 overall and 13 of 43 isn't too bad. What would you do differently?: Not sure, maybe just more bike work. Felt like I was struggling a little on the climbs. The bridge thing sucked too. Maybe get the clip in thing squared away. Transition 2
Comments: Not too bad here either, but was racked about halfway in between the bike in and run out, so ran in bike shoes more than I wanted too. Run
Comments: Not too bad for me. 30 of 43 kind of sucks, but my pace almost 50 seconds per mile faster and the course was a half mile longer than the last race. 3rd goal was to improve on the run, so I'm happy with that aspect of it. First mile was a little under 8 minutes, and was 16:05 at the 2nd mile mark, so definitely faded toward the end. It will come with more conditioning though. What would you do differently?: Just be in better shape. Also, learn to drink out of a freaking paper cup on the run - man I suck at that. Post race
Warm down: Water, light stretching, walk around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall conditioning, and the struggle with the swim early on. Event comments: Good race - probably liked the Shawnee Mission Triathlon better because the bike course was easier. Last updated: 2008-07-29 12:00 AM
