Comments:

The start was good. I just stayed out of the way and let the fast people go, but there is always somebody who is doing breast stroke right about 200 yards that gets me. Just kept the pace easy and tried to stay strong the whole time. Just one lady that like to try and crawl over me. Got out and had to run to the strippers who got me out of my suit fast. Best 1/2 IM swim.
What would you do differently?:

LONG DISTANCE TRANSITION!!!
Seriously, I had a good transition but, I had like 700m to run to get to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.

Comments:

There was some strong wind on one side and that meant good tail wind on the highway side. I started out pretty good, just trying to keep the HR slow and recover a bit from the Took a gel and water and kept pedaling. I was having a good ride I thought. Seen Ronan at the 2nd aid station working on his bike. Then was going on my 2nd loop when Bruce showed up. I had to keep him in my sites as he started 10 Mins behind me and I wanted to stop the bleeding. Pushed it then and had a great second loop passing a few people.
I had a great ride in my books. Best 1/2 Ironman bike.
What would you do differently?:

Start riding more. More hilss
Transition 2
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Pretty fast.
Everything went smoothly
What would you do differently?:

Go a bit faster. Have a shorter run to the run start.

Comments:

Started running nice and slow to get the legs moving. I wanted to run this whole damn thing except for the aid stations...hard to drink while running. So I started passing a few people and seen Bruce at the turn around he was running basically the same speed as me. I finally caught him at the 12k mark and we started running together. I needed to run a 50 min 10k to get my pb and knew I wasn't cabable at this time so I wanted to get Bruce in under the 6 hour mark. There was a lot of belly aching over those last 9 k from Bruce, but I yelled and had other people yelling at him to keep moving that he finally got his under 6 time going. It was great. I ran the whole way save a few water breaks. Had my 2nd best 1/2 Ironman Run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I am Pretty happy with my time. Stoked that Bruce got his!
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped in the lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition. I started out good but my stomach rebeled at 2 hours on the bike and I started getting cramps. I had a banana at the last aid station on the bike and water for the run and one flat coke on the run. So, my nutrition has to change.

Event comments:

I am disappointed in the long transition. Other than that this race is good. Lots of very good racers.
