Pre-race routine:

Had an hour drive to get to the race, arrived a little after 6. Got transition set up and relaxed with some co-workers doing their first triathlon.
Event warmup:

Just stretched.
Swim
  • 06m 42s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Went smoothly, although they started me and my lane mate about 5 seconds after we got in. Not a big deal.
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to start my watch, and actually stopped for a second midway though my first length to start it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I was worried about the grassy hill going down the pool into transition, but it didn't end up being a problem. Everything went smoothly in getting through T1.
What would you do differently?:

For shorter distances I may want to eventually go sockless, but frankly it only took an extra 15 seconds or so. Not enough to warrant the potential discomfort.
Bike
  • 35m 47s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.28 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt great on the bike. I definitely could have pushed more, but my computer wasn't working so I didn't want to overdo it. One thing, with the spread out start the bike course was deserted. It really made you wonder soemtimes if you were on course. One nice thing, I passed about 8 people and for the first time in an event _was not passed_.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my bike computer is working.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Again, no problems here, I am really happy with where my transitions are at.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 28m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really surprised at how well my run went. This is by far my worst event in tri. I set a PR a few weeks ago of 28:14, so I was thrilled to only lose 20 seconds off that time. Maybe the marathon training is helping.
What would you do differently?:

Keep getting faster. A year ago I had trouble running 10:30 miles, so things are getting better.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some water and a bagel, waited for my co-workers to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, although I could have pushed more on the bike.

Event comments:

Well run, small event. Really good for first timers. Chip timing would be nice, but the effort put out to provide splits was much appreciated. Fantastic volunteers and overall a really fun time!
