Pre-race routine:

Not very productive. I got up at 5AM, had a bowl of cereal, and drove to the site. I had finally bought my bike the day before and had to fix a couple of things.
Event warmup:

I didn't have much time to get ready. I had finally bought my bike the day before and had to fix a couple of things. I just set up my transition area. Got worried that I didn't need to use the facilities (i.e. I was dehydrated) so I downed a bottle of water and some energy gel.
Swim
  • 08m 57s
  • 547 yards
  • 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was my third OWS so I was a bit discombobulated at first. It went much better than my last two, though. Once I got around the buoy I had my own path cleared out and I could actually swim using good technique.
What would you do differently?:

I definitely should have more aggressive and gotten myself out to the front. A warm-up would have definitely helped as well.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

I was concerned because I had never actually used cycling shoes before this race, other than when I was fitted on the bike at the shop the night before. It was really easy, though, and I took off right then and there.
What would you do differently?:

Used a pair of cycling shoes before.
Bike
  • 31m 36s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 21.84 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was awesome and I was able to pass a lot of guys who'd gotten out of the water or onto their bikes ahead of me. I was already wondering why I hadn't made the investment sooner. I was a bit careful at the turns, so I came off the aerobars and used the brakes, which cost me some time at each turn.
What would you do differently?:

Cycling practice. More aggressive with the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Again, it was my first time with cycling shoes so I decided to play it safe and come to a complete stop before getting off. Everything was smooth after that.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to get out of the shoes while riding and jump off the bike.
Run
  • 23m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I disappointed myself. What had been my best of the three sports went south; I simply couldn't build speed or cadence no matter what.
What would you do differently?:

Running practice and interval training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and downed a bottle of water. When I got to the transition area, I had a couple energy gels. Left once the transition area opened up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I simply haven't been training in an organized or efficient way. Since I moved back to the states I haven't been practicing with a club, which I think made a big difference as well. Lack of proper rest over the last week didn't help, either.

Event comments:

Of the three races I've done thus far, this was defo the best one in terms of the course.
