Age Group Rank = 18/21
Pre-race routine:

Drove to Lake Geneva... got up at 3:15 and got into the car by 4:00 am. It was so FOGGY on the way up to the lake... We drove 10 mph on some stretches of Route 47. Ate a PBJ sandwich in the car.
Event warmup:

Got into the water before my wave went off to acclimate myself.
Swim
  • 19m 35s
  • 1000 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

As per my comments above...
What would you do differently?:

Next year I'm going to do more open water swimming. Our group swims every Tuesday and Thursday AM @ Lake Zurich. I haven't gone once. Obviously, my swim performance could be improved, and this practice might help. I've also blown off Master's swims lately.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

Even though we got on the road by 4 am, we still arrived at the race site rather late, and I wound up with a lousy transition spot. I'm going to consider staying overnight before some of these races... this early AM foggy driving crap isn't for me. (!!!)
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I found my transition spot right away... it was just in an inconvenient location. I will arrive EARLIER next year!!!
Bike
  • 1h 21m 53s
  • 25 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Comments:

So, I thought I was hammering on the bike... until I saw CindyK's splits! OMG! That girl can go go go go go!!! :) I will say, I was racing a couple of guys... I'd pull ahead and they'd catch up and pull ahead, then I'd pull ahead again.... etc etc... anyway... one of them said "263.. you're kicking my A$$!" that made me smile.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Pick up the pace a bit.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

Husband and dog appeared at the fenceline to say hello.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Faster faster faster. Anyone can have quick transitions. Practice transitions more.
Run
  • 1h 19m
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow. Slogging. Up hill... terrible. But that's what I expected.
What would you do differently?:

RUN RUN RUN training. Off season, here I come... I intend to emerge as a whole different athlete next season! I need specialized RUN training. Going to start all over... from square one and get myself going for next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line to the cheers of some BT'ers... Coredump, CindyK, Hiccup, and Tupuppy... Hung around and chatted with them fora moment, and then off to find husband and dog.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad attitude about swimming and running. Either I need to make a decision to become a cyclist, or get it together and become a more well rounded athlete. (!!!) I love triathlon! I'm infatuated with biking. It's like I'm having an affair with my bike. But I'm married to triathlon. Bizarre, I know... (!!!)

Event comments:

The swim course was definitely short... how short, I don't know. About 10-12 minutes short in my case. I was meandering all over the course and still managed to finish a good 9 minutes better than my best Oly swim time. This race is notoriously disorganized, but it didn't seem that bad to me this year. I had a great time... Looking to improve next year... Tri season 2005 is a WRAP!!! Photos to come.

Swimming
00:19:35 | 1000 yards | 01m 58s / 100yards
Age Group: 0/21
Overall: 0/420
Performance: Below average
Suit: Zoot tri top and tri shorts
Course: Out and back around two white bouys. This swim was short. I'm estimating the distance. I had major problems sighting... I don't know what was wrong, but I swam waaay off course. My goggles got foggy too... Had to stop to tread water to clear them out... I couldn't see! Don't know why this happened as I sprayed de-fogger in them on race morning. I usually don't have this problem... I haven't been sighting very well this year, and I think it's an attitude problem. I need to get more enthused about all 3 events... not just bike riding. I've been sort of laxidazical (sp?) about swimming and running. Not an excuse... just a fact.
