Swim
Comments: Swim was pretty good. It was a two loop swim with anmandatory exit after the first 500 meters - run the beach and then dive back in. I had never done an OWS, so the first experience getting kicked in the face and drinking lake water was a bit nerve wracking. After I regained my composure it ended up being a great swim. My sighting was off so I ended up in the middle of the lake twice, which wasnt so cool. What would you do differently?: Try training in a lake. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time as I didnt want to forget anything. One of the guys who took himself too seriously started yelling when we got backed up, so we let him go and he did his thing. What would you do differently?: Get a little water bucket to clean my feet. Bike
Comments: This was an absolute nightmare. Course started in deep, heavy, muddy grass - I thought I was going to die and for the first time began to question whether I was going to make it. I fought through it and continued on my way. Over the course of about 12 miles the following occured: - Experienced serious chain suck. Had to get my chain unstuck (5minutes) - Lost tightness in my seat post and seat went loose. Had to wait for a kind person to stop (10minutes) - Seat went loose AGAIN!! (10 minutes) -Slipped on a rock, tipped over the bike and bent the handlebars. Rode the rest of the ride (5 miles) with my left arm leading my right by about 4 inches. -Lost my rear brake - Pad in the disc shattered. Lost my only chance for speed (which was downhill) -Lost 10lbs of pressure in both my tires.. Yes 10. Out with 30lbs, in with 20lbs. I come from a car racing background where ever bolt is touched and touched again. This was no different. Overall, the ride was very muddy and very fun. What would you do differently?: I gotta do it... I promised myself I wouldnt... I gotta blame the bike. I think I lost 20-30 minutes because of it. Transition 2
Comments: I was whopped, but ready to finish this out. Got told by some lady I had 29 seconds to leave the transition????? I was confused. What would you do differently?: Take my helmet off before I start running. Run
Comments: ROCKY ROCKY ROCKY. I felt like a hiking billy goat. I had a lot of fun. I was tired but the adrenaline started to kick in. I stopped at ever water/gatorade station and thanked ever person on the way. I wasnt a rocketman, but chugged along. What would you do differently?: Like any of the other three legs, probably just a bit more training. Post race
Warm down: Drink and eat and take pictures. What limited your ability to perform faster: The first 30 minutes saved should come with a properly functioning bike, the rest with much more training. Event comments: Not a whole lot of other stuff. We got a t-shirt on Saturday but I was hoping for some goodies... maybe even some coupons. Something to look at on my ride back home, lol. Overall very good though. Last updated: 2008-08-03 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 - ate a banana, a dry english muffin, and drank some water.
Got to the course about 1 hour early to set up my stuff. I couldnt figure out what the more advantageous transition spot would be though so I had to guess on this one.
Small jog on the beach and two laps in the kiddie pool - I kid you not...
