Pre-race routine:

I arrived 10 minutes before the start of the race. I had done a group workout in Hopkinton and got lost on the way to the race. The traffic in Salem is fierce.
Event warmup:

Getting in my wetsuit as quick as possible
Swim
  • 33m 1s
  • 1609 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

I started in the middle and as close to the front as possible.Did this race to practice ocean swimming for IM Plymouth relay. The start was pretty rough as I expected. Alot of kicking and hitting. Just kept my pace and right after the first bouy the pack thinned out. Googles fogged up after the halfway point and I had to stop and de-fog twice. I did draft for a while, but then sped up toward the last 200. This was a great race!
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier, get goggles ready!
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a granola bar, had some water and then headed home.

Event comments:

This is a great race to do if you want experience with ocean open water swimming. It is in a protected bay so chop is minimal.
