Swim
Comments: 68 degrees in just shorts is still quite warm. Definitely do not need a wetsuit of any sort for this water temp. What would you do differently?: Wear a tri-suit next time. Transition 1
Comments: Horrible transition.... need to simplify and setup the transition area much better. What would you do differently?: 1) Tape Gu to bike, and eat at start of bike. 2) Put gatorade (or equivalent in bike water bottle). 3) Clip shoes to bike pedals (see if feet will go into shoes with click straps on shoes just barely done, if not, need to practice putting on shoes on the bike). 4) Ditch the riding gloves. 5) Think about going without socks. Bike
Comments: Fumbled getting into clips for a while. Had to stop to buckle shoe that I missed in transition. What would you do differently?: 1) Have shoes already clipped into pedals for transition. Need to practice this!! 2) Drink much more during bike, so I am not needing to drink for transition / run. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty slow. Shoes with normal laces don't cut it here. Having biking shoes on full through transition doesn't cut it either. Putting on shirt backwards was awful. Body glide on for shirt was a good idea, but took time and not needed in a tri-suit. What would you do differently?: 1) At end of bike, get feet out of shoes before transition. 2) Eat Gu at end of bike before transition. 3) Drink plenty on bike 4) Get fast rubber laces for shoes. 5) Take off helmet while running with bike. Run
Comments: Sucked wind badly on run. By far my weakest discipline. Need to work on running... a lot. Finished with a good kick to win the Clydesdale division by 6 seconds. What would you do differently?: TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN... um, and TRAIN. Post race
Warm down: Walked for 15 minutes. Drank gatorade and had a salt pill. Never cramped, quite happy about this. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, lack of practicing transitions. Event comments: Only 1 toilet for men for everyone (and 1 for women as well) made for some serious long morning bathroom lines. The post-race wait for awards took forever... The course itself and the execution of the staff to run the actual race was fantastic. Will definitely be back next year. Last updated: 2008-08-04 12:00 AM
