Age Group Rank = 7/12
Pre-race routine:

Got everything prepared the evening before, so just needed to load up my bike. Ate peanut butter/honey sandwich on whole wheat bread, sipped a gatorade on way to race.
Event warmup:

Just walked around and got myself oriented. Enjoyed visiting with other athletes. Ate some Welch's fruit snacks, drank some water.
Swim
  • 04m 41s
  • 200 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Seeding was good without any real back ups. Was passed by guy behind me and passed guy in front of me. Was a little slow to start because was about to start on the count of one and had to catch myself.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, I felt fairly relaxed. Continue to work on swimming.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

The transition area was down a small hill from the pool, so lost a bit of time there. Wore Asics/UnderArmour socks. Took time to put on race belt/number, sip some water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Learn to drink on the bike. Wear Adidas socks or more stretchy socks to get on easier.
Bike
  • 23m 22s
  • 6 miles
  • 15.41 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get more time on the bike so I can relax more and learn to drink while riding.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Already had race belt on so just sipped a bit of water.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to grab my iced rag I had laid out.
Run
  • 24m 54s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was OK. Could have been a little faster but slowed to encourage 13 year old boy that was struggling. He had a cramp in his side, so we walked and talked a bit, then ran off and on together. Made the run much more enjoyable!
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on run through training for half mary. Remember cool rag.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around a bit, talked to some of the first time triathletes about their experience.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ha - my age and fitness level! But I've come along way in a year when this would have been totally unrealistic to think about. My goal was to finish in under 1 hour and finished in 56:21, so I'm happy!

Event comments:

Very first time friendly race for a great cause! Would recommend to anyone for their first time.
