Swim
Comments: The swim started out to be way more of a sprint than I would've liked. Two guys sprinted out to a lightning fast pace and i tried to keep up. I also had my googles fill with water which slowed me down early on. I wasn't able to get into a really good rythm and i spent far too much time doing the breast stroke. What would you do differently?: I wouldn't chase the leaders ever...I am a weak swimmer and it is more important to get out and do a pace than it is to follow a pace. I need to spend more time in the pool to work on my breathing and my pace. Transition 1
Comments: The transition was decent but man was I tired. I thought i might fall over. It could've been a little cleaner and more planned. Before my next race I need to work on transitions a little more to help get me onto the bike a little quicker. What would you do differently?: Just prepare a little better and try to work on placing my gear in the most optimal places. Bike
Comments: It was a good ride. Just should've pushed a little harder to get into the t2 a little quicker. What would you do differently?: draft draft draft. It wasn't a marshalled event so there would've been no harm in doing it. Sure it prepared my for Iron Man Canada in 2020...but for a little first race like this...should've drafted. Transition 2
Comments: Someone had put there bike in the rack over my gear on a diagonal. I had to adjust the bike before I could get mine in the rack. I could feel a cramp in the right calf coming on in the last part of the ride. When I went to change my right shoe my calf balled up and made me stop. I was able to shake it off and stretch it out before heading out on the run. Grabbed a quick drink of gatorade from the bike before heading out. What would you do differently?: I would have been more prepared in putting my gear a little more spread out to claim the area. Maybe it was just a result of the race planning but the transition area was pretty messy. Run
Comments: When I got out on the run I couldn't get into a good stride. My stide was very short and my chest felt like it was wrapped tight in tape! Just couldn't move or breath very well. What would you do differently?: I would've eaten a little better and drank more water the day before. I would've avoided the cramping and maybe would've had a little more gas in the tank for the run. Post race
Warm down: Just stood around. Should've stretched but didn't. really didn't have a plan for the warm down. I need to plan for this on the next race. What limited your ability to perform faster: My diet. For some reason my legs felt like stones. I also didn't taper down very well. I took a full four days off before the race trying to heal up a bit in the knees and shins from running in my Saucony shoes. They're horrilbe. I need to be a little better at planning the taper to give myself only one or two days rest before the next race. Event comments: The race wasn't very well organized and the courses weren't marked very well. The water was cold for those without wet suits. Overall information on where to go and what was happening was pretty weak. Overall it's not the worst race to go into as a beginner. Last updated: 2008-08-05 12:00 AM

Tried to have a morning coffee and a bowl of Vector. First race so I really don't have a routine.
Went for a short little 800m run to warm up. Did a little streching and got dressed in my wetsuit.
