Pre-race routine:

At transition at 5:30; got some prime real estate; chilled for a bit
Event warmup:

10 minute jog and some light stretching
Swim
  • 06m 5s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was a mad house and because it was a sprint distance the pack never really cleared out. I have not competitively swam in a race without a wetsuit yet and I noticed today that it took a little more energy + I was going faster than normal with an increased heart rate most of the way.

Also I sliced my toe on the rock at the start of the race.

What would you do differently?:

Try to relax a little more and swim at my own pace and not blow up during the swim only to suffer on the bike.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Slow...bike racks sucked and I had to invert my bike to get it out + I had to look at my toe to access the damage.
What would you do differently?:

Not slice my toe!
Bike
  • 29m 19s
  • 10.21 miles
  • 20.90 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my second ride on the new Cervelo. It is definitely faster, but I still need to do some tweeks and ajust the seat fore/aft position. My legs had a lot of lactic acid build up and my HR was elevated from the swim. Legs will need to be conditioned to riding in the new position.

What would you do differently?:

start off slower, get HR under control then burn out. It's kinda hard to do since it is such a short race. Practice drinking while aero.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Had trouble racking my bike AGAIN. Didn't want to scratch the new toy!
What would you do differently?:

Not slice my toe at the swim
Run
  • 24m 14s
  • 3.17 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off slow because of a side stitch and sloshy gut. Ended up settling into a nice rhythm. Got stung by a bee on my left calf (I did not see the bee though).
What would you do differently?:

watch the liquid intake on the bike. Since I do not do too many sprint tris,
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched a little

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I went out too fast on the swim and raised my LT early on in the event. My heart rate stayed elevated for most of the race.

Event comments:

This is a good first timer race - easy swim (except for all the inexperienced people) flat bike and run course ... few little rollers.
