Pre-race routine:

Stayed in a cabin hotel so really didn't have the breakfast as usual. Had a very small bowl of cherrios.Woke up around 6:15...meant to get up at 5:45. We stayed in a cabin about 150 meters from transition area. That was awesome!
Had a Hammer Gel about 1/2 hour before race.
Event warmup:

Walked to and from cabin a couple times! Does that count for warm up! I did jog for 8+ minutes and did a few strides
Swim
  • 08m 1s
  • 402 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was pretty choppy. Not white caps but some pretty good waves. I did swim freestyle 100% of the time. I found out afterwards some good swimmers (better than me) swam breath and backstroke. I caught some water, but really felt good. The first 1/2 was better than the 2nd. The mean started 5 minutes after us so I could feel when they got in because of increased waves. I got a little rattled at this point. Towards the end the
What would you do differently?:

Swim all the way in...I got up walked, then swam. I wasn't sure what was faster. The bottom of the lake was slippery so walking was not a good solution
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Forgot my race belt which had me a little worried.
The kids were yelling at me during transition which got me off track I think. Also...I really forget to obey rules on when to get on the bike when it comes to leaving transition. Pearl a gal I swim with was yelling at me to not get on my bike yet. I remember it but I am in such a ZONE when I'm racing.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure race belt gets on...I wouldn't want to forget..not sure if they ding you even if you have a race chip!
Bike
  • 43m 38s
  • 14.1 miles
  • 19.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt great. I didn't want to get off the bike...just because running is so much more painful.

My heart rate was pretty high during the entire race. Kind of surpised me with the absence of hills. HR was 181-185 everytime I looked.
What would you do differently?:

Push it harder! However really never had anyone to push me. Passed two women and never saw any other women. The men that passed "blew" by me!
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s
Comments:

Transition was quick! I remembered my race belt, BUT I FORGOT MY GARMIN! I noticed this right when I went over the race mat to go into the run. I said sh*** and thought for a second I should turn around and go get it. I opted not to...after apologizing for my language.
What would you do differently?:

Lock down my transitions....don't forget anything!
Run
  • 23m 37s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Was okay..never felt great during the run! Never had any females in front of me or near me..that never helps. I really can't remember how many men passed me!
What would you do differently?:

Have a better base built. I want to be able to easily run 22's for a 5k
Post race
Warm down:

MMMMM...I'm suppose to warm down right!

I warmed down my mouth as usual!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run! Need to know that I can push the bike and not DIE on the run! I need people around me to push me.

Event comments:

GREAT Route...hands down the best I have done! I will go back.

Course: The Course was AWESOME! Not one farm house! We went over both large bridges in the area! Absolutely beautiful. Saw the lake probably 60% of the time. The traffic was well controlled. Course had 2 hills...and not huge. They said it was flat and fast! I thought I would be scared going over the bridges, but not at all!
