Swim
Comments: Being my first tri, I have nothing to gage this performance against. I was just soo happy to finish, and was really happy with a time of 34 minutes. What would you do differently?: I stayed toward the right (outside of the group) to keep some space. I had no problems with getting run into or over, but might try getting more into the middle next time, try to draft a little maybe... Transition 1
Comments: Applied spray sunscreen (fair skinned and get burned), which cost some time, but I think was worth it for this race. Socks were hard to get on. Overall, I think my first transition ever went pretty smoothly. Getting clipped in was still tricky for me, took a few minutes to get my right foot in. What would you do differently?: Depending on the local and weather, might skip the sunscreen. Bike
Comments: I didn't push it on the bike, I had no idea what this whole triathlon would be like, and I focused more on having fun, not my time. Got caught in a pack of bikes, and had a hard time passing and getting through, so I mostly just enjoyed the ride, ate my gummie bears, and drank lots of gatorade and water. Fun ride :-) And I didn't fall over getting clipped or out!I have no idea about cornering, or turn. There were no hills and need for gear changing What would you do differently?: I think I could push the bike a little more. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was so much faster than the first that I thought I was forgetting something and took a minute just to be sure I hadn't missed a step. This was such a large transition, running through it took me a lot of time. Run
Comments: Running is my weakest sport, but I didn't walk at all. I did get passed, a lot. But that's ok, I had a great time, and felt awesome. What would you do differently?: I want to work more on my run training. I'd love to get to a 10 minute mile pace; have a long way to go for that... Post race
Warm down: Walked around the post-race park! Drank lots of fluid :-) What limited your ability to perform faster: Mostly just myself. I don't think I pushed super hard, but I had a great time. I got hemmed-in on the bike a little, making it hard to pass. Event comments: Super race, wonderful volunteers. With so many people, it was amazing how smoothly everything went. I loved it and can't wait to do it again. Of course I have nothing to compare it to, but everyone else says it's wonderful :-) Last updated: 2008-08-10 12:00 AM

My first triathlon! Thanks Team in Training. Woke up 4:45am to walk over to transition from the Vinoy. Got marked, and set up transition just like my TNT coaches and mentors showed me. I couldn't believe it was the day...I worked really hard to get here. Headed back to the room to wait for the swim start. Ate a plain bagel with peanut butter (the usual), drank water. After about 1.5 hour rest, headed over to the swim start...
Felt so excited, and a little nervous. Had a short swim warm up in the bay with the TEAM, and took some pictures with the girls. My husband was doing this race with me, we encouraged each other, and then my wave started first. So much time and effort went into the training, and more into the larger cause for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Standing in the coral, waiting for the start was somewhat emotional. But I was so happy to be there!
