Swim
Comments: This was very rough. The course was very short, and everyone funneled into a narrow corridor. It was always packed, rough, and I never got into a groove. All of my stroke work in the pool turned to crap. I was also breathing heavy within the first 2 minutes. What would you do differently?: Warm up; try to not get so boxed into a rough segment. Transition 1
Comments: It took me a long time to clean/dry my feet, which may not have been necessary. I ran out of the water pretty hard to catch friend, but was tired because of it and spent way more time in transition than he did. What would you do differently?: Don't run so hard into transition, figure out how to get shoes on quicker. Bike
Comments: The bike wasn't that great. I'm not sure what did me in-tired from swim, tired from hills, too much work going into race? Either way, I averaged the same speed on a 31 mile ride the week before, and this was only 10 miles. What would you do differently?: Just need more training. Transition 2
Comments: This went smoothly. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Although my legs never felt good, and I felt like I was going slow the entire time, the run went pretty well. I had no idea I was going as fast as I was. It is possible that the course was short, but I'd have to see confirmation of that. Someone with a garmin said it was accurate. What would you do differently?: More brick work with a shorter transition time. Post race
Warm down: Swam in the lake for a while-was very very nice there. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not sure what my issue was on the bike, but that was clearly my weak spot. Event comments: This was a good sprint race which I would do again. I learned to respect the tri more than I did before. My body was in pain the entire time, which is different than a running race of equal or greater duration. This could probably be improved with an easier swim-I was expecting more time to find my groove but the swim ended too quickly and I was already tired by the start of the bike. Basically just watched others to see how they set up their transitions, as I've never done a tri before.
Almost no warm up except getting body wet in water before the swim. This may have hurt my swim.
