Swim
Comments: Lots of chop out there. This was my first tri and the swim was a bit intimidating. As I rounded the first buoy I noticed a guy hanging on and was distressed. Kayak was on the way so I kept going but it was unnerving.I had to breaststroke most of the way out to get through the waves, but switched to freestyle for the swim back in. What would you do differently?: Learn how to freestyle through waves. Spend more time in OWS group swims. Transition 1
Comments: Ran up from the beach across timing mat then walked to bike area. Threw on socks and shoes got back out. What would you do differently?: Run the entire way. Bike
Comments: I went way too easy. This was not a difficult track but I wasn't sure how hard to hammer. Beginners inexperience. What would you do differently?: Ride harder. Transition 2
Comments: OK Transistion. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Cramped up after the first hundred yards. Stopped and stretched the calves and went fine after. Did have to stop and walk a couple of times but got motivated to finish strong. What would you do differently?: More bricks in training. I've got to figure out the calf cramping issue. Post race
Warm down: Wife and kids came over to congratulate me. Had some water and a bananna and just relaxed. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to train more. Woke up at 4am after a jittery night of sleep. Had whole wheat toast with peanut butter along with a protein shake. Grabbed a cup of coffee on the ride over to the event.
Didn't warm up too much, just some simple stretching and gazing out at the choppy water.
