Swim
Comments: I'm pretty sure it was longer than last year, cause not only was my time 3 minutes slower, but looking at the results it looks like other people's times were a couple minutes slower too. It was a little bit longer at the start too, cause last year we started from chest deep in the water, but this year we started on the shore and had to run into the water. This was the first time I ever started in the first wave, which was kind of neat. What would you do differently?: After the second turn, when we were heading back toward the shore, my navigation wasn't very good, and I got off course a little bit. Other than that, I think I swam ok. Transition 1
Comments: I got my shoes on while I was riding a little better, but I still need to work on it to get it faster. I had the second fastest T1 time in the whole race, since I was one of the few without a wetsuit again. What would you do differently?: I still need to work on getting my shoes on faster while I'm riding. Bike
Comments: I was a total idiot when I was setting up my transition area, and I forgot to put my bike computer on my bike. I got started on my ride and looked down to check my cadence, and noticed it was gone. It was very frustrating to do the whole ride without cadence and mph. Then around mile 7 or 8, I realized I hadn't drunk anything yet. I think I was flustered because of the bike computer, and wasn't thinking right, and had been forgetting to drink. There was also a pretty nasty wind for most of the ride. I was pretty happy that I actually beat last year's time by 15 seconds, even with the wind. I was hoping to get more like 1:05, but considering the wind and no bike computer, I was happy with what I got. What would you do differently?: Remember my bike computer. Remember to drink. Transition 2
Comments: After jumping off the bike, we had to run down this short little incline which was hard in bare feet. I don't mind running with bare feet on pavement, but going down that steep hill, while trying to hold onto the bike was tough. What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of. Run
Comments: I felt really good on this run. It was way cooler than last year, which helped. I had a little bit of a side stitch, cause I don't think I drank enough on the bike, but it wasn't enough to bother me too much. What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of. Post race
Warm down: Wow, now that I'm sitting here typing this, I just realized I forgot to warm down! What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental mistakes, like forgetting the bike computer and forgetting to drink enough. Overall though, I'm very pleased with this race. This is the best I've ever done, and I beat my time from last year by three and a half minutes. I didn't get my goal times on the swim or bike, but I was very happy with the run and happy with the overall race. Event comments: I really enjoy this race, which is why I was so looking forward to it this year. It's very well run, and a fun venue. Last updated: 2008-08-14 12:00 AM

Woke up at the hotel and drove to the park around 7:00. Got my race packet and set up my TA, and then sat on a bench overlooking the lake with my wife. Had a PB&J and Powerbar at 8:00. The race started at 9:00.
Just did my usual stretching out my arms on the beach.
