Swim
Comments: Swim is my best event. Today was my second swim in a wet suit, and I discovered that I didn't get it pulled up high enough, as I think the suit rode low and chafed the heck out of my neck (I did use plenty of body glide, so that wasn't the problem). Also, this was the first time I drafted a little bit. Maybe for a couple hundred yards, but it definitely helped some. What would you do differently?: More drafting. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't do any transition practicing, and it showed. Oh well. Bike
Comments: My bike was pretty decent today. I've seen some improvement over the past year, so I'm happy with the progress that I've made. I only got passed by one woman on the bike today, same one that passed me last year I think. I wanted to follow her for longer, but was afraid of getting nailed for drafting. :) Man was she something to gawk at, I mean to appreciate her athleticism and all, right? What would you do differently?: Not sure, I think I've about maxed my bike without a ton more training. And I just don't have the time to do it. Transition 2
Comments: I did a little better in T2 than in T1. Having the elastic shoe laces was a big help. Still, a pretty mediocre performance. Maybe I'll wise up and practice these transitions before Oceanside next April. Run
Comments: The run killed me. Being on some meds that caution against dehydration, I walked every aid station and downed a full water at each one. That was a smart move, but slowed me down a bit. But with my meniscus torn and no training on dry land (I've only been aquajogging), I discovered that aquajogging is no substitute for real running. By the last 2 miles, I slowed substantially, and I ended up doing a fair bit of walking uphill. My last mile was probably close to 15 minutes. Oh well, I still just beat my overall time from last year. What would you do differently?: Get different knees. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Being on meds. Training limitations on running. Mentally, I just didn't have the edge today, not pushing myself on the run at all. That was disappointing a little. Event comments: Maybe I will try this again next fall. The field was pretty small, which was nice. Last updated: 2008-08-14 12:00 AM

Took my meds (yeah, I shouldn't have been racing this weekend), ate some breakfast, and drove down to the race venue.
