Swim
Comments: I think my recent stoke modifications (Thanks Tom) helped me in this race. I improved a good bit over my Happy Trails swim time at the same distance. It was hard to get to clear water with the large group start...If I can figure out how to sight better and swim the whole distance without stopping, that would be killer...I did hit my groove after the turnaround. That was cool. What would you do differently?: I need to work more in the pool. I may start warming up in the water prior to races. I haven't ever done that, but it takes me half the race to find my pace, so maybe that would help. Transition 1
Comments: This was a good transition for me. I did a bit of practicing the 3 days before the event. I should really work on this more! What would you do differently?: Not much more than practice so I have a routine and don't need to think about it! Bike
Comments: WOOT! I had an AWESOME ride. I have never had such a high average speed...I didn't muff any shifts on the hills, I was very good climbing and I played cat and mouse with a gal in a green top that helped me to a new PR on the bike! Groovy! What would you do differently?: Not much...I did lose focus at one point and brushed a shrub (ever graceful...that's me:-) but I passed aggressivly this race and went for it! Transition 2
Comments: Um, well, I kind of still stink it up on the transitions. I had operational issues with the race belt...took 3 tries to fasten it, and my number ripped and had to be reattached. Took in 1/2 a gel (I needed it after the rippin ride) and was off. What would you do differently?: Loosen that belt so it is easier to wrestle with! Practice so no thinking is required! Run
Comments: I knew that lots of folks would be passing me on the run as Running Fit put the race on! I was hoping for a pr on this run, but since I had such a good ride (my best leg of the race) I was o.k. with this run. I really wish there would have been water at mile 1as well as 2. I felt better and increased my pace after mile 2...the downhill was a blessing! What would you do differently?: I never ran the course...that would have helped. I really could have pushed it a bit more, but the lack of water and fast bike kept me in check the first 2 miles. Post race
Warm down: I was so geeked about my new PR that I forgot to drink my recoverite drink and to stretch! Opps! I paid for that the day after the race!!!!! I did lots of socializing and ate a banana and 2 slices of pizza with my water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not being prepared to push it after that bike leg. Overall, I am totally happy with the race. I didn't expect to have the bike ride I had, so I don't feel badly about the run. A new PR! How cool is that? Event comments: It was a lot of fun, the weather was great, the company even better and other than the large waves at the beginning of the race and needing water at mile 1, a great race!!!! It was weird...racing in the evening. I had a funeral to attend during the day, so it was a strange day overall...I wish I'd had a bit more food before the race...I decided I was hungry just before the start!
Basically just got set up, waited for my family to arrive and then got to it!
