Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5:00 and ate a couple of banana muffins that Tyra made and drank some water and laid back down for a little while. We checked out of the hotel at 6:30 and then headed over to the starting line.
Event warmup:

I didn't do any warm up. I waited in line to go the bathroom and finally got through the line with 10 minutes to spare and walked then jogged to the starting line just in time for the race to start. It was cold at first so I left my sweatshirt on at the starting line. I knew I would see the kids at about mile 2 and I could through it to them when I ran by.

Comments:

I felt pretty good for most of the race. I kept a nice steady pace up until I hit the hills at 18. I did the hills on 18 and 19 pretty strong, but then they just kept coming at me. The hills on 21, 22 and 23 were tough. I was doing some walking on part of those hills. I was able to pick up my speed again on 24 and 25 back to mid 8's, but then I hit the last big hill at mile 25 and had to walk up part of it. After I crested that hill it was all downhill from there and I coasted into the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I felt like I ran a good race. I thought I was going to be able to run this under 3:30, but I wasn't prepared for the hills late in the race. If I ran this race again I do more long runs that ended with HILLS.
Post race
Warm down:

None. I just tried to stay warm and walk around until Tyra finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough hills during my training. I should have have been doing the last 5 miles of my long runs on hills. I was not prepared for the hills between 18 and 23 on the course and it definitely slowed me down.

Event comments:

Overall a good race. It's a really scenic course. They do need more aid stations though. There was only a few for the first 13 miles and then even after that they were supposed to have them every 2 miles but I don't think they did.

Course: Very scenic course. The first half of the race is fairly flat with only a few rollers mixed in. There was a stretch along the shore where we had a headwind, but not too bad. There was a decent hill at mile 14 and it flattened out again for a few more miles until 18. Mile 18 through 23 was where most of the hills are. There is one more big hill at mile 25 that gets you right before the finish.
