Pre-race routine:

Well, we arrived at our parking spot at exactly 4 am. If you extrapolate that backwards, you will find that we got up at 2:40 and left the house by 3:10. Yes, people, in the AM!

Had some coffee, grabbed my PBJ sandwich and started driving. Car was all packed up and bikes were on the back already.
Event warmup:

Rode my bike from the parking lot (which was used last year for parking, but not this year, so we had the whole thing to ourselves!)

Didn't really do much of a pre-race warm up because my wave didn't go off until 7:30. I didn't see the point in getting all warmed up just to stand around. So I chatted. Alot. With who ever would chat with me.

I thought this would turn out to be a faster time. Hmmmmmpf. Was super aggressive in this swim start. Started up front and fought with the front girls of my wave for clean water. Didn't draft much as I didn't trust anyone and there was lots of traffic coming in the opposite direction. I wanted to try to avoid head on collisions. Even so, I got into accidents with several people, all of which crossed the buoy line and were meandering around in my lane. This did not make me happy.

Also collided with a number of backstrokers. This did not make me happy either.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I thought this would have been a faster "per 100" time. I usually say "I should have been more aggressive" but I think I was aggressive enough this time. Started up front and center with the attitude that "I own this swim".

For this reason, and because I've swum similar distances in about 12 minutes, I am deeming this sprint swim "long". There's no way I swam 1:52 100's. And there's no way I was 9th out of 73 while swimming 1:52 100's.

Not much. Any transition time with a 1 in the first position makes me happy.

Had no idea how fast this was going to turn out to be. No speedometer. Chris' wheel feels totally different on my bike, so I couldn't really tell how much effort I was expending. Didn't feel like I was working 20+ mph hard, but I was hoping I was.

I think I may get myself some new wheels... or maybe I should continue to train on my crappy wheels and get myself some RACE WHEELS for race days. Hmmmmmmmm. Something to think about. There was a marked difference. And this wheel was nothing special.

Lots of new racers doing this race, and they like to ride 3-4 abreast, much to my chagrin. Made it very hard to pass without going left of center. I started out being polite... "Please keep to your left..." and wound up just snarling "Move over!" after the 750,000 time. Very frustrating. One thing for all new triathletes to remember, PLEASE stay to your right while on the bike. For your safety and for the safety of those passing you.

My knees ached as soon as I started this run. They made their presence known, and I thought it would be smart for me to lay off them a bit and not push it too much. I have another big week ahead of me, and I just came off a pretty big running week. This marathon thing... Hmpf. ;)

When you have the knees of an 60 year old woman, there's not much you can do but try to listen to your body.
What would you do differently?:

Knee transplant? Hobble all my competitors? Run faster? I did what I could today.

Perhaps the thing I could do differently is learn to accept my limitations as a runner. And embrace my talent for cycling.

Event comments:

Very expensive race. Racks were crowded, but the race itself was fairly well organized. The sprint cost $109.00, and for that I got an EAS bar and a fleece. WooooHooo.

Of course, I did get the opportunity to ride my bike, swim in a lake and go for a runny type thing with a bunch of my friends... and I suppose you can't put a price on stuff like that.

This is a sprint PR. With a longish swim. :)
